Calvin Johnson traded to Bucs for #1 Overall

What would the reaction of this board be if CJ was actually traded? I'd be the happiest sob on earth.

I don't know if I'd be excited, maybe relieved for the future. Would count as $21MM in dead cap this year, but nothing after.

A healthy Calvin? Hell no
Constantly hobbled Calvin? Sure, that's a lot of money for a part-time player

Right? Dude has a little hitch in his giddy up as well

Nobody in this draft is worth a calvin johnson. Not even a hobbled calvin.

Just a few weeks ago the majority voice on this board was that Mayhew was a douche for not signing Suh, even at the big overpay. Now Calvin is a big contract so a trade woud be good?

I don't get it man. The guy is the absolute best in the game at his position and the most dominant player the Lions have has since Barry.

I dont care how big his contract is, it's worth it to see him playing for us instead of against us.

I think you misunderstood. LKP wanted Suh for big money, most of the rest voiced the fact the tag got so high .. As far as Calvin, these big contracts have been killing us. The more we add on offense, the worse they do.

And trading CJ would financially kill this team. But why would you understand that?

Short term..but right now it's killing us anyway..but why would you understand that.

Not really killing them, he's one of the best receivers so a high cap hit is expected anyway. They've managed to work around it just fine.

My only problem is with his health. A 16 game Calvin is worth the money, but when Calvin is essentially a non-factor like he was last year for a 5-game stretch because of injury (and less than 100% the rest of the season) it's a higher cost for less production. I'm not sure it's ever going to get better the older he gets.

Yes, injuries are mostly random/unpredictable, but with the way Calvin plays and his history the past 2 seasons I have to wonder if he'll be missing more time in the future. We see it every Sunday, Calvin going up for the ball and taking a huge shot, injury is inevitable...but that's what he excels at, so we have to deal with the risk. The tin foil hat part of me also believes teams occasionally target him in the hopes of knocking him out because he's such an important factor.

Love Calvin as a player, but I don't love them paying him 25% more than any other receiver for 11 games worth of production. Unfortunately that's not Calvin's fault and something he has no control over.

Calvin for first overall or Suh for a kick in the nuts. Hmmm....seems comparable.

Financially it would only be around 400k more hit this year, frees up 24 million next year.

The only issue is we don't have the money to replace him, other than a rookie. So it would be on Tate, Ebron and the rookie to replace CJs production. Probably a tall order. However financially doesn't make much a difference this year, and is a big relief in 2016.

Now obviously I don't see this happening, but financially it could easily work.

Another move that helps us in the long run. And well worth it for a guy that will probably have another nagging injury again this year.

I agree. And Calvin as the beast and as a person, he's awesome. But like you said, 25% more than anyone else for 11 games. I'm not blaming Calvin, just looking at other possibilities.
