Calvin Johnson

CJ claims he wants to retire a Lion. He's still a valuable asset in this offense. He either takes a pay cut or he's gotta go. The ball is in his court i would assume....

Fitz is sort of an anomaly. Even had a few down years. You can counter a fitz with an Andre Johnson or Roddy White as well. CJ still adds a good amount of value, but a salary cut is important.
It can't be looked at as a one year thing. We probably can sign the necessary people with his contract, it just forces us to structure contracts to absorb his big number by pushing other peoples cap hit into future years. So its a cycle of dealing with cap hits because we don't want to have a good guy take a pay cut or release him.
Also CJ may be OK being cut so he can sign with a true elite team. Have a couple Moss like patriot years.

Put him opposite OBJ.

This is exactly right....and there is incentive for both sides here so I would bet it gets done.

There is no way CJ would bring in, on the open market, what he's going to make if he stays.....even at a reduced salary. He'll also likely get a large percentage of it guaranteed.

Detroit saves cap space and keeps the face of their franchise in Honolulu Blue.

I'll say he plays for the Lions at $16M in 2016.

Really hope CJ finishes his career in Detroit.

I certainly wouldn't hold it against him if he bolted to try to win a title......but my Lion fandom wants him to stay.
