Or is it too early? Someone please tell me his career ml stats or that its only 42 PA.

I really want to get excited here but by the eyes of some its wrong. What should I do?

He has 15 strikeouts in 39 ABs, he doesn't hit for power, and he has a career minor league OPS of .697.

I would probably consider getting excited about it as well if we weren't 4 games under and 6 games out on the verge of falling back to 4th. Just not capable of getting excited over much of anything with this team right now.. He'll come back down to earth sooner or later. I like the speed the most, he can really do this team a lot of good when he gets on base. Would like to see us find a spot for him when Jackson comes back so that we can at least use him as a pinch runner and outfield D replacement late in games when needed if not for anything else.

I like him... He has flaws that is for sure but we really do need some team speed..

Probably won't be able to keep up these numbers but it will be nice to have him when the rosters expand as a pinch runner...especially if we're trying to claw our way into a playoff spot that type of dynamic on the bench is priceless...

And to think we traded away a perfect player for Comerica park. A quad 20 player. Frustrating to watch Granderson in a Yankee uniform.

Unfortunately under McClendon's tutelage he'd probably still be flailing against lefties...

Granderson is a low average, okay defensive player who if not for Yankee stadium would be a 25 HR guy.

What about AJ, I think we got the better player.

Always the negative. I suppose it'd be better to have great ml numbers and hit .120 in 42 PA at the ML level.

Some of you worry about ml numbers way too much. Somethings, guys do better in the show. And with a team full of .235 hitters I'll take it.

it might be one of those rare occasions where a hitter does better at the major league level.something about having the ball always being thrown near the plate, and more strikes.

I agree that he K's too much, can't take a walk, and doesn't hit without enough power.

Why can't the Tigers minor league system produce a patient hitter?

However, with that being said, I still thnk he warrants starting (even when AJ comes back) until his numbers start to drop. Right now, he is a better option than Boesch or Young.

There's nothing to get excited about on this team until they start winning.

So you've been what? Excited about baseball twice since '84? I get what you mean but baseball is more than just winning or else we'd all be Yankee fans.

No, you have it wrong. When the team isn't expected to win, it's fine to get excited about new talent or promising futures, when the team is expected to win, it's hard to find anything else to get excited about.

There should be no excitement about a team that's 24-28 in a crappy division that went "all in" over the off-season.

I'm not super excited yet, he seems to work the count well and put the ball in play though so he doing what he is supposed to do. I like his speed and his defense, him and Ajax is the OF would probably save a bunch of runs in themselves. We'll see how long he can keep it up, but if he has a .280 avg and is stealing bases, he is worth it.

I'm exited about Berry, what else have got to be excited about if not Berry?

The Tigers are actually playing a little better baseball the last couple games even though it's been tough going. Berry and his speed are a big part of that IMO.

Must be a horrible baseball season for you. I like to find the silver linings, Berry and AJ and Smyly and Below.

Berry's done a nice job while here, but when Ajax and Dirks are healthy there just won't be a place for him to play regularly, and him toiling on the bench as a late inning defensive replacement or a PR won't do him much good.

It's best to probably send him down and keep his AB's up when Dirks and AJ are back, so if/when we need him again he'll still be sharp.

But he really could fall into 1 of 2 categories right now:

1. He's playing well above his head/lucky(in terms of getting on base)

2. He's seeing more plain vanilla fastball strikes because he's supposed to be an easier out, and he's taking advantage.
