Can we all agree on this one thing?

but to your point, while that may satisfy the most loyal of his base, I think it will be seen as you described by a lot of folks especially hard line immigration voters who don't think Trump can do no wrong.

I don't know.

Some local editorial journalists here in So Cal, who have been hard line border security advocates for years, are nevertheless concluding that the optics of this were so troubling that the procedure were doomed from the start.

So we'll see what the attitudes of hard line immigration voters will be about Trump rescinding this procedure, but - where are they going to go? There's still no one more hard line on border security than Trump. Most - obviously just my opinion - will see it as a forgivable political back peddle in the face of a monumental negative backlash from almost everybody else.

NBC News reporting that President Trump has just signed the executive order ending the procedure of separating children from their parents at the border.

I think this very thread added to the pressure to make this change.

He just blamed Obama for families ever having been separated in the first place.

They probably won't go anywhere because there's not likely to be a more hawkish candidate when it comes to the border - they're not going to suddenly vote for a pro-amnesty candidate. I'm just saying the people who will continue to blame the Dems exclusively are will be the diehards in his base.

I heard that the executive order also flies in the face of only holding detained children for 20 days. The order says children may be detained with their parents indefinitely.

This is not over by a longshot, and is headed for court so that Trump can blame the judicial branch telling everyone that the judges are forcing me to separate families.

It might, however, last until some legislation is voted on so there are more scape goats out there for the policy we end up with.

just more politics as usual.

I bet the for profit prison system loves what is going on at the border. We have 5% of the worlds population and 25% incarnation rate. I am sure glad the Methodist church saw through the Insidious nature of private prisons. But anyway I am sure Orange Nitwit will get away with this I mean he lies all the time. His policies are trash.

Company that runs immigration detention centers is top donor for two Texas congressmen

WASHINGTON -- One of the country?s largest operators of private immigration detention facilities has made significant contributions to several Texas members of Congress.

The GEO Group?s PAC and executives have given $32,900 to Houston Republican Rep. John Culberson?s campaign this election cycle, according to Federal Election Commission documents and OpenSecrets.org. GEO is Culberson's largest donor.

In Texas, GEO operates detention centers for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Karnes City, Laredo, Pearsall and Conroe.

Culberson is facing a tough re-election race against Democrat Lizzie Fletcher. The race has been rated a ?toss up? by nonpartisan analyst Cook Political Report.

Culberson received the most funding from GEO out of Texas members of Congress. U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, received $500 less at $32,400. GEO is also Cuellar?s largest campaign donor this cycle.

Both Culberson and Cuellar serve on the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee, which funds private immigration detention centers. Culberson is also the chairman of the House Appropriations subcommittee on commerce, justice and science, which oversees funding for private prisons.

Cuellar?s campaign manager Colin Strother said that GEO is one of the largest employers in Cuellar?s district, and that Cuellar has not allowed campaign contributions to influence his decisions.

Yes.

ALL of criminal justice prosecution and rehabilitation should be the direct responsibility of We, the People.

Lizzie Fletcher's primary made a lot of news. The DNC & their cronies went out of their way to slime her opponent in the primary.

Except for her (presumed) opposition to breaking up families at the border, and of course abortion and gay rights, I would wager she'll be virtually indistinguishable from Culberson on economic issues, "defense," foreign policy, taxes, education, etc.

So Trump signs an executive order that does nothing for the kids that are already separated. Sounds like putting lipstick on a pig and hoping it blows over. If that doesn't work go to the playbook of saying or doing something else crazy.

In other news...

Melania visited "the Border" (a detainee facility here in Stupidland) for a photo op, while wearing a jacket with the words "I REALLY DON'T CARE DO U?" written on the back.

yes that really fucking happened. Trashy Mail order brides don't give a fuck. Holla!

Also: while all this was going on the Senate voted 85-10 on (another) massive fucking defense budget increase. only 7 Democrats voted against the budget, despite the fact that Trump is an "unstable threat to world peace" or whatever they called him...

Bernie voted no.

In fairness she didn't wear it off the plane but yeah I don't she really cares.

Why do we spend so much more money on military rather than spend more on infrastructure? Pretty soon we won't have anything left to defend.

I'm fairly certain that almost all our foreign policy and defense decisions are now based solely on what benefits defense contractors. we'll never leave Afghanistan, or stop bombing any of the few dozen or so countries we're currently bombing because of this. it's unstoppable now.

Trump might be a genius. He is making our country so shitty that people won't want to immigrate here.

This is another intentional distraction. I read the jacket is $39 and the First Lady is never seen in clothes with text on it. That jacket was not her style.
