cbs says joepa has died

Sad end to a great coach. I hope long term he will be remembered more for what he did right then what he did wrong. RIP JO PA.

I had just heard he was just really sick and had taken a turn for the worst..

Last rites given and family called to hospital

Comiplications from lung cancer treatment

Sad to see him go. A legend in his own right.

Wonder what would have been if he just kept coaching?

As a college football fan I am saddened. He was a great coach who did a lot for Penn St. Yes he made a big mistake but he did more positive things and that is what I will choose to remember.

I said almost immediately after being fired by Penn State, that he''d likely pass soon, within a year or so.

While I respect his legacy as a coach, he stayed too long, failed to stop Jerry Sandusky and created an atmosphere that permitted the most abhorrent behavior possible, involving at risk and vulnerable kids. I don't feel sorry for him, his family or Penn State fans at all. The good he did will and should outweigh the recently revealed bad, but I can't say there has been another such situation ever. Bear Bryant passed shortly after leaving his role at Alabama and certainly had controversial aspects to his legacy, but Paterno is in a class all by himself and for a lot of reasons.

Rest in Peace, Joe.

The cancer sped up the demise

Sad last yeas
Rest in Peace, Joe.

Legendary coach. It's a shame Jerry Sandusky clouded the way Joe will be remembered. May he rest in peace.

May Jerry Sandusky burn in Hell.

I absolutely feel bad for Penn St. fans. They had no reason to know. Not to mention, it could have been us.
