Link. He uses the weaselly "parents ?need to have some measure of choice?" language. I assume this will harm his presidential aspirations, but then again, maybe I think too much of my fellow Americans.

after an "outcry" he backtracked "...prompting the governor to modify his position about an hour later and declare, through a spokesman, that ?there is no question kids should be vaccinated.?"

I get that you're pandering to a base that thinks government = bad, and buys into all that libertarianism as a matter of national policy crap, but come on... We're facing a real health crises because of this idiotic thinking; he vaccinated his own kids. This is not the sort of issue you want to be "balanced" on if you actually give a crap about the country you purportedly want to govern.

One of the FEW items I agree with him on

what sort of mental illness drives one to become "an outspoken critic of circumcision?"

Reasons for circumcision are primarily cultural or religious these days, aren't they? So pick a culture or religion you don't like and there's your reason/illness.

I contracted many of them as a child, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Chicken-Pox, not to mention quite a few bouts with Poison Ivy, with one particularly nasty case that my mother claimed to have morphed into Impetigo. Also got trenchmouth once but never remember having a "cold sore", that despite most, if not the lot of us having contracted the Herpes Simplex virus as infants.

I also don't have an oval vaccination scar on my left shoulder, like most of my boomer contemporaries do, dunno if that means that I never had it, or that my inoculator was pretty damned adept @ injections.

I also never have acquired an STD, this although I had waay too many unprotected one-night-stand sexual encounters with the opposite sex, especially during the 70s and 80s. No bastards or even lawful progeny resulted either, so maybe I'm freaking sterile?!?

there is some evidence there are hygienic/health benefits to it as well, so there's that.

Scientific American says benefits outweigh risks. That's good enough for me.

But, I think in some of the more more liberal parts of Europe, the extreme view is that it is a backwards religious thing similar to female genital mutilation and the main difference between our differing reactions is cultural. But I think that's just the extremist view. Looks like in places where they're passing laws, it's just to ban ritualized circumcisions, not hospital circumcisions.

I thought that only applied to 3rd world situations. I haven't really dug in to the topic though.
neither have I, though I did a little bit when Champ Jr. was born.

suffice to say, the evidence of health benefits of it are inconclusive, but may be legit, and the claims it's harmful were more or less junk science.

Actually, it's worse for Christie than I thought. In '09 he actually met with an anti-vaxx group (he posed for a picture).

A whole lot of stupid in this quote:
?I have met with families affected by autism from across the state and have been struck by their incredible grace and courage,? Christie wrote in the letter. ?Many of these families have expressed their concern over New Jersey?s highest-in-the nation vaccine mandates. I stand with them now, and will stand with them as their governor in their fight for greater parental involvement in vaccination decisions that affect their children.?

I think the big study that had everyone freaking out was retracted in 2010.
