Christie Creme almost comes out as an Anti-Vaccination nut

"The two states with the highest vaccination rates are West Virginia and Mississippi"

You don't say.
I know, right? I guess the south remembers the horrors of the diseases pre-vaccinations as well as they remember Sherman's march to the sea.

Reading now about GOP-rep Duffy in WI...

Wow.

For a while, anti-vaxx seemed to be a bi-partisanly stupid issue, with fringe elements on each side advocating it. It even looked like it might tip into being an issue for the Dems, w brainless "Hollywood liberals" being the most outspoken. But it appears with the comments from Rand Paul, Chrispie, and this Duffy clown, the GOP is stepping up to the plate and asserting it's position as the party of Stupid Americans.

Neither party has particularly cornered the market on stupid Americans. Look who claims you as a constituent.

BTW - before you go all postal. I am a staunch defender of vaccinations. You only need to see one time, someone who contracted Polio, or someone who has died of the Measles.

ill hold my breath waiting for you to denounce these GOP hacks for pandering to the anti vaccine crowd...

"Panderers" the lot of them. If you voted in any of the last years' elections, you couldn't help but vote for a "panderer".

If you use that as your measuring stick, how do you ever decide to vote for anyone?

I'm assuming you don't mean the strict definition of the term, either - although whoever knows with you?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean here, but my impression is that it started as a solidly liberal thing, but the conservatives caught up and are now passing them on being stupid about this issue.

That's what I was saying.

you could find Total Idiots on both ends of the political spectrum, anti-government or anti-medical science types, and libertarian freebooters on the Right, and nutty holistic medicine, vegans, etc. on the Left that opposed vaccination. What seemed to tip the balance to Anti-vaxx being more a "Liberal" position was the presence of brain-dead celebrities, who - regardless of their own convoluted personal politics - were counted as "Hollywood Liberals" by popular notion, notably Jenny McCarthy.

Except for Michelle Bachmann (who was already on her way out) I don't think any actual politicians weighed in... but now the GOP appears to be committing to it.

I think there are relatively harmless ways to pander to voters... like "supporting the troops" or demanding others "support the troops" and engage in other meaningless flag-waving gestures.

but pandering by giving lip service (or worse) to the anti-vaxx crowd? Dang, man, that's a public health problem with very real consequences.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/201...fueled-the-resurgence-of-preventable-diseases

Interesting animation showing how since 2008, almost the ENTIRE REST OF THE FUCKING WORLD, actually cut down on the number reported cases of immunable diseases, but the US which had literally eradicated Polio, and Measles, Mumps, and Rubella, have steadily increased the number of cases in the last 5 years. -facepalm

Any politician, no matter what party affiliation, that even remotely supports the Anti-Vaccination idiots should be placed in the next available rocket and fired on a one way trip to deep space, simple as a matter of public health safety.

Is that anything like Pelosi claiming to be Catholic, but really being a staunch pro-choice politician?

So which is worse, pandering to Catholics to accept murder as no big deal, or paying lip service to the anti-vaxx crowd?

Look at the voting records. Does this Duffy clown back up this lip-service with a voting record to match? I don't claim to know, just asking, but I can tell you Pelosi's voting record is down the line pro-choice.

You do understand some Catholics of the world don't adhere 100% to church policy right?

But how elitist of you to claim she's not a Cathlolic (a religion that has been around about 1700 years before anyone ever spoke the word abortion) because her opinion differs from the churches on 1 point?

Maybe next you should start rounding up heretics who practice or condone/support planned parenthood, contraceptives, or sterilization while claiming to be Catholics and burn them at the stake.

Its really liberal pro-choice vs conservative pro-embryo/fetus. After a birth it becomes liberal pro-life vs conservative personal responsibility.

Don't forget we're actually following England's lead on this (along with other parts of Europe that are right there with us).

are there anti-vaxxers there too?

Article says yes: "Childhood immunization rates plummeted in parts of Europe and the U.K. after a 1998 study falsely claimed that the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella was linked to autism."

amazing how junk science catches on (and compare and contrast with real science like climate change science). It seems like the medical community, public health officials, and ultimately heads of state should've done more to prevent this from happening.

we know of a couple other parents that didn't vaccinate their kids for literally the dumbest reasons (in one case the mom said she didn't want to see her daughter get hurt by a needle)... it should absolutely be mandatory. on some issues parents are too stupid to know how to parent their kids, and I whole-heartedly endorse the state intervening, no matter how much libertarians and other nutjobs want to stomp and scream about it.

this is one of them.

We just need some percentage vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. So local immunization rates should be monitored and taxes levied on those that don't vaccinate that keep going up until herd immunity is achieved.

How in fuck's sake did you get all that from a pandering comment? This is your most stupid response to anything I have posted on this board . . . ever.

Really doesn't deserve an answer due to the complete idiocy of the comments, but lets take them one at a time.

If by chance said person is not adhering to church policy, even on one "small" point, and then attempts to "pander" to a class of voters (like pro-life Catholics), then I say I can compare that to Duffy pandering to anti-vaxxers, when maybe he doesn't really believe in anti-vaxxing. Whether I believe she is a Catholic or not (good or otherwise) has not one iota to do with anything.

Back to differs from the church on one point? You mean like thou shalt not kill? Pretty big point in my opinion. It is not for me to judge how good a Catholic she is, but actions speak louder than words.

Start rounding up heretics and burn them at the stake? ROFL, what lead you to leap to that stupid comment? I am not doing anything but comparing two stupid politicians pandering to groups of voters. I think I need to send you a dictionary so you can look up the word, before going off half-cocked about completely stupid shit.

Politicians pander to whomever they are talking about at the time. It is one of their defining qualities. What moron would equate that to wanting to burn anyone at the stake?

No it is not.

You were talking about acceptable grades of pandering.

Pandering to what end? Getting someone to vote for you, or think you support their cause? That is how I took what you said.

So, yeah, I think it is a worse type of pandering on your given scale.

I'm guessing your reading comprehension needs a tune-up. I'll post it again for you so you can stop being such a dickhead.
