Come the trade deadline, should Joe pursue a SF?

Right....Smith did NOT recieve a max contract. Stud players get MAX contracts. Teams don't let their STUD players leave. Smith is NOT a stud player.

Another great shooting game by ___-SMOOVE. At this point in the game he is 5-18 and 1-6 from 3. Keep jacking them up SMOOVE...you will get yours!

I get it, you don't like him. I don't either when he's on this Pistons team. But take a look at the Atlanta teams he played for. Smith wasn't the problem, he was more often than not their best player. They didn't let him go because he sucks, they let him go because they are cheapskates and don't want to pay ANYONE that kind of money after failing so spectacularly with Joe Johnson. The swindled Al Horford into taking 12 million a year. Are they going to break the bank for him when he's a free agent looking for the max?

A SF that might be on the trade block is Carmelo Anthony. He has 2 years on his contract. The Pistons need perimeter scoring and that's all he does! Trade CV and Stuckey for him. The Knicks are a team that might want to clear cap space! While I don't like Carmelo at all he fits what the Pistons need (perimiter scorer) and he is a superstar who would make the team relevant again.

We already have a superstar in the making in Andre Drummond, that's the guy you want to get the ball to. I'm not sure Anthony is what the team wants. He ISO's constantly and we need to feed our bigs down low, that's how our team goes really.

Sort of reminds me of getting AI. But I can't lie I would be excited as he'll if Anthony was in a pistons uniform. I don't think it would ever happen though. He's obviously not happy in New York now, but detroit is just not the place I think he would want to go if he wanted to win now.

ugh you're so stubborn, it's kind of disgusting. SMITH IS PLAYING OUT OF POSITION. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT???

he's having these horrible shooting nights BECAUSE HE'S NOT A SHOOTER/PERIMETER PLAYER. if we utilized him similarly to the way we use monroe, he'd actually play up to his contract, or close to it.

i have no problem with smith being on the team, but i do if we're not gonna use him properly and let that 54 million go to waste. seriously, a 4-5 big P&R between smith and drummond could be one of the most devastating plays in basketball...

Not sure I like that deal but you guys know more about NBA then I do.. Just seems like to much to me to be giving up...

i believe i posted that before stuckey started to elevate his game. now that cheeks has him in the perfect role, i'm all for keeping stuck around at the right price come next season. i'm thinking he'll get a 3-4 year deal for 5-6 million a year.

so he can't shoot from the outside but he continues to do it. Brilliant!

here's another one i came up with that i really like:

pistons trade: monroe, villanueva
pistons receive: shumpert, humphries

knicks trade: shumpert, stoudemire
knicks receive: monroe, g. wallace, villanueva

celtics trade: humphries, g. wallace
celtics receive: stoudemire

-pistons get their lockdown defender and a very productive backup big.
-knicks get the size they're looking for AND get an expiring deal.
-boston swaps two bad contracts for one big one and get the opportunity to turn stoudemire into an asset once his contract becomes an expiring one.

i'd have to think new york would throw in a future 1st as well, but i'm really feeling this deal. shump's legit. him, KCP, smoove, and drummond would be absolutely smothering defensively.

These are some well thought out deals. Shump could fit well with the Pistons though I would hope we could get a little more for Monroe.

Here's one I thought of, got a little carried away on the Magic side lol

Pistons get Arron Afflalo, Glen Davis, Moe Harkless
Pistons trade Greg Monroe, Rodney Stuckey, Jonas Jerebko

Magic get Greg Monroe, Rodney Stuckey, Alonzo Gee, Taj Gibson, Marquis Teague
Magic Trade Arron Afflalo, Glen Davis, Moe Harkless, Jameer Nelson, Kyle O'Quin

Bulls get Jameer Nelson, Kyle O Quinn
Bulls trade Taj Gibson, Marquis Teague

Cavs get Jonas Jerebko
Cavs trade Alonzo Gee

Shumpert is severely overrated. He is NOT a lockdown defender, he is just the best defender on a team filled with terrible defenders. Also, he's not much of a scorer. He has a decent outside shot, but that's the only thing he does well. No way we trade a potential 20-10 big man for a SG who is questionable as a starter on a good team. Humphries adds little to the equation because he's wildly overpaid and doesn't do anything Smith and Drummond don't already do better.

are you serious? have you ever watched him play? he's easily one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. he's not just the best defender on his team, HE'S THE ONLY DEFENDER. nobody else on that roster can play D to save their lives.

greg monroe can absolutely be an elite offense big man. the only problem is he'll never be better than below average defensively, but because he's so skilled on the glamorous side of basketball, he'll get overpaid. if you valued defense as much as you value monroe's bounce passes, pivots, and pump fakes, then you'd warm up to a trade like this.

and what's wrong with having a 3rd productive big? any trade of monroe will need to net us a big capable of backing up drummond at center. besides, who cares if he's overpaid, his contract expires after this season anyways. what's with all this arbitrary hatred for these productive and useful players??

Not necessarily the other world trade idea i posted earlier, but a deal for Glen Davis and Arron Afflalo could fit those two needs, only problem is that though Arron is playing SF at the moment is because Oladipo is better than Harkless. He's only 6'5, if KCP was a few inches taller he could play SF and it would be a great trade lol.

i really like the idea of trading with orlando, but i don't think you even need all those other teams to come up with a plausible deal. here's what i came up with:

detroit trades: monroe, singler, jerebko
orlando trades: afflalo, harkless, nicholson/o'quinn

detroit is able to add a premiere perimeter player in afflalo as well as his eventual heir on the wing in harkless, who i, personally, think has an enormous amount of potential on the wing. nicholson would make this deal an absolute home run as he would be a great fit next to drummond and smith, but o'quinn would also be a solid player to add to the rotation.

orlando turns their glut of talent on the wing into their franchise big to play alongside vucevic. oladipo would be able to play the 2 full time while tobias harris would be able to reclaim his starting spot at the SF once he returns from injury. singler presents them with a solid reserve on the wing at a very cheap price. jerebko adds depth, hustle, and scrappiness which all coaches love.

orlando would be a marcus smart away from really taking off...

Trading isn't about simply getting players, it is about getting value. We wouldn't trade Monroe for Shumpert because Monroe is significantly more valuable. Humphries is a rebounding specialist. He's scoring decently in limited minutes, but for his career has been inefficient. He's not a defender either, just rebounding. His contract matters because the team isn't making money yet, and taking back more money and less talent than we send out is bad business.

Your youtube video is nice, but tells me almost nothing. You could put together a 5 minute defensive highlight reel of Greg Monroe, too. He gets an above average number of steals for a big man with quick hands. Ultimately being a great defender isn't about steals (or blocks, or rebounds, or any single box score stat). Being a great defender is about limiting the effectiveness of opposing teams and individual assignments over the course of a season. NY is a better defensive team when Shumpert plays this year ONLY, they've actually defended better with him on the bench his first two years.. But look up his counterpart data too. SGs have consistently posted above average numbers against him. SFs destroy him. Shumpert is not locking down opponents, he's just playing average defense and looking like a stud because he's the only guy on his team trying.

Iman Shumpert is a fringe starter on a good team. NY is trying to swindle the league into thinking he's this defensive force that can alter games, but there's not evidence of it. If he was ACTUALLY as good as you say, why in the world would NY be looking to move him? They need a defensive specialist way more than they need another offensive player like Monroe, right?

we absolutely do get less value coming back in a simple 1 for 1 monroe-for-shumpert swap. i'm well aware of that. that's why i said NY throws in a future 1st too, but even then i can agree that monroe's value exceeds what we'd be receiving.

that main problem is that it's almost impossible to find a trade that equally benefits both (or all) sides. monroe's a special player, a throwback post player with excellent passing and rebound skills, so his value is high, but what rosters have a need for him and have the perimeter players that we seek as well? how much do we value our perimeter defense? how much do other teams value post scoring? concessions would almost assuredly have to be made at some point as is the nature of business.

I think the best way for the Pistons to get max return out of trading Monroe would be a sign and trade in the off season.

boosh.

chicago saves money, gets rid of boozer, and gives themselves a chance at landing a good FA next summer while adding a great young post player and a good scorer.

we maintain our size down low while also adding a stopper on the wings.

i love this deal

Giving up Stuckey and getting Butler would be great for us I think. But I don't see how getting Boozer helps give Josh Smith more post-ups down low or why Chicago would be willing to give up an up-and-coming player (Butler) on a low contract for 2 one-year rentals (Monroe and Stuckey). Also, what incentive does Utah have to be a part of this trade?

boozer has a much more refined mid-range game than smith and monroe, so there's reason to believe that he would be able to space the floor for smith and/or drummond better than monroe. boozer would be the first big off the bench, and with only two years left on his deal, would still leave plenty of money to extend dre.

obviously butler makes a ton of sense.

monroe would only be a 1 year rental if chicago chooses to let him be. remember that he'd be a restricted free agent, meaning that the bulls would be able to match any off he signs. given noah's injury history and contract, it's very possible that they'd move him the right deal and move forward with taj gibson and monroe.

also, the bulls' offense is awful without rose. stuckey would give their backcourt a boost immediately. if he plays well, and they like him, they can resign him. if not, they get out of boozer's albatross of a contract, which is something they definitely are looking to do.

lastly, with favors and kanter in the fold, and rudy gobert's emergance, utah has no real use for biedrins other than his expiring contract. i'd like to think they'd swap useless expiring player for useless expiring player. biedrins would obviously just be an extra big that would only see spot minutes due to foul trouble/injury.
