Cool cap simulator

So were 6.5 under that cap? That don't not seem right.

Why is the salary cap 128.5 mil in 2014 and only 126 in 2015? Doesn't seem right. I cut half our team and extended Suh and still only went from 6.5 mil to 8 mil in cap space. I don't know schles weird.

It is kind of cool just not sure it works. I thought no way we'd be under cap..

Maybe its still in beta mode. Cap should be around 126:

Teams were informed at the NFL meetings this week the projected salary cap for 2014 is $126.3 million, a person informed of the number told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday.

The number won't be finalized until late February or early March, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to address the matter publicly.

If it stands, the $126.3 million cap would represent a 2.68% increase over the $123 million unadjusted cap in 2013, but still down from $127.997 million in 2009, the last capped year under the old collective-bargaining agreement

I`m no cap expert, but doesnt the NFL have some sort of cap roll-over from the year prior of un used cap space? I thought that is why Seattle was able to add so many Free agents this past year.

So if the lions were 2.5 under in 12` they can go over 2.5 in 14`?

So if you were 20 under you could go 20 over the following season? That seems a bit far fetched.

It's correct, but keep in mind that's like a 30 man roster right now.

6.5 under the cap because Idonije, McIntosh, Akers, Raiola, Hill, Muhlbach, Gandy, Spurlock, Wendling, Carey, Ogletree, Pettigrew, Young, Fox, Dickerson, Bell, Durham, Greenwood, Stanford, Veldman, and Ross are no longer on the roster.

Good point. Take the bare minimum to fill our the roster and we're quite abit over.

If they cut Burleson and Delmas, they'll save about 11 million next season.

I was just looking at some other teams and the salary caps are all different..each team has their own max cap.

Granted these numbers are potentially inaccurate to some degree, and there is also the fact Lions could restructure contracts; however, the BIGGEST issue when analyzing this data is:

Suh + Staff + CJ = 39.138% of total cap

This team will never be a TEAM due to this equation. Restructures just defer the numbers to future years and postpone the problem, but eventually the Tax Man cometh, whether it be a quick and painful payment or long drawn out problem that lasts for many, many years is the only question.

39% for 3 players means 61% for 50 players. so those 50 must average about $1.56 mil.

granted there are several on the list who could be cut and their salary subsequently lowered to help maintain that average. that list includes:

Burleson, Delmas, Tulloch, Houston, and Bush. The question is can we get players for half their prices to perform roughly equal to them. For example, can Riddick replace Bush? Can Lions draft a WR or CB to replace Burleson or Houston in the 2nd round (wait, BWAHAHAHAHA...sorry...ok, i'm better now) and can they get a MLB and S in later rounds?

Possible? Sure. Combine that with the inevitable Suh restructure and the Lions should be ok. They always manage to field a team and Mayhew has managed to make things work in the end, but he's still fighting cap hell and until these 3 contracts are better controlled or the cap goes up significantly, I just don't see the Lions putting together a strong enough team to make the push they need to win in the playoffs.

Suhs number could be 8 million less in cap number in 2014 with extension. Calvin 3.2 less with restructure. So that would be about 40 million on 3 players. Would that please the cap worriers. And lol at some of those people. Sidney rice, Greg Olson, Logan mankins, tramon Williams, schaub

Extensions don't make the problem go away..

The point you missed is that even at $40M, only 1 playoff TEAM has higher top 3 pay rate. grandy is showing pretty strong evidence that keeping top 3 between 20-25% of cap is a winning formula and going over 25% reduces the chances of making playoffs.

aka every team in the top 10 not named NO is destined for mediocrity and dint make the playoffs.....clap it out for those GMs!

Lol at what? Those are the numbers

40 mil 35 million big fucking deal. Lions do fine in getting who they want in free agency. That is only thing it matters for the cap. Last I checked we got bush and Quin

Suh and Calvin are the lions best talents. Anyone that wants to get rid of them are crazy. Suh trade only if he makes it clear he is testing free agency after this season. Calvin and stafford go nowhere

And still had holes and missed the playoffs. Seattle was a good team who got in last year and sell was able to spend a ton.
