Just not true.

he said the Wayback Machine let's you go "back in time on the web" which I assume he doesn't think this is actually time travel, but regardless that's a really dumb way of saying "caches old web pages on a server so you can read the original content later on"

I use wayback machine all the time to edit my old posts so that everyone remembers me being right the first time. Also, I haven't thought of a better use for time travel than that, but I'm not working on it because when I realize what I should really do with this power, I'll just send myself an old email.

I'm going to go back add some red herrings to my history so Jean Claude Van Damme doesn't Time Cop me.

I've posted multiple statistics that prove the exact opposite. Even in the face of hard numbers, they double down with excuses. It's impressive really.

That prove the exact opposite of what?

The exact opposite of it?s just not true, or the exact opposite of it?s not just not true?

The post is confusing.

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics. Statistics are the bane of us serfs and the currency of the powerful.

The problem with statistics is a problem with media. You can paint a story same as the rest of the news. They're not as bad in a setting like this if people work to understand them, challenge them, find related stats to check plausibility. They can be bad as headlines that go without scrutiny, which is usually the case.

Well it was the selective application and interpretation of statistics by elected officials reported by media that shut down the economy and created this so-called “new normal,” which is itself a lie. Statistics leveraged with propaganda and politics is a volatile and dangerous combination and has spawned new and false concepts like “social distancing” “essential workers” and the aforementioned “new normal.”

I am more convinced than ever that the MSM is an enemy of the people.

I guess on some level (a very low one) it's understandable. You can't SEE the virus. The people talking about it are the same "elitists" on TV you've been conditioned to hate and distrust for decades, if you're even a casual viewer of Conservative media.

And if no one around you is sick or dying, or got a little sick but recovered, it probably doesn't seem all that threatening. Trump got it, but he was fine. He even said it was no big deal.

And they're right to be suspicious of the mainstream media in this country... I can't fault anyone for doing that. I just wish they'd "see the forest for the trees" so to speak, when they do decide to scrutinize a story or a bit of information

There are 2 ideas floating about that I reject. One is the idea that the economic hit could have been avoided without lockdown rules and the other is that the death toll as it is reflects the trade off we made against the impact to our lives.

Regarding lockdowns: In the original paper with the '2 million deaths', with the caveats that everyone ignored about how their model involved no behavior changes, I believe they said that even if governments didn't take action, people would change their behavior on their own. At least I think that's where I first saw that idea. Either way, I totally believe. There's not remotely as much 'lock down' as there is people voluntarily being cautious. This idea that all of this was avoidable is a total fiction. Half of us were going to reduce exposure anyway.

Regarding the costs of the 'trade off': The 400k dead (or whatever it is now) is how many people died with the degree of behavior changes we implemented. Had we not done everything we did, the deaths would have been higher. Maybe 2 million come to think of it.

I can see how a person sitting at home might not see the impact and might not personally know somebody that's died or might buy into the idea that what they do know of was classified incorrectly. But there has been a significant uptick in funeral announcements at church, and I feel like a lot of people should have noticed that by now.

He lays it all out, including analyzing the phrasing of headlines, how frequently certain words are used (terror/terrorism, for example), or notably, when they're NOT used to describe the same actions by a different actor.

But Chomsky is Jewish, and has been making lists of "Dangerous intellectuals" since Nixon's time, so these books might as well be labelled "POISON!" for many Americans. They can't even crack the cover without freaking.

Identity and belonging to a certain group is more important to some people than understanding the world around them. Or maybe a substitute for understanding the world around them (which is admittedly unpleasant).

I mean, if you ALREADY KNOW America is the great moral beacon of democracy, and most bestest country on Earth, it's a little jarring to see how badly we've managed this pandemic and public health in general, right? Politicians from both parties not only failed to keep people safe, but basically passed death sentences on a significant portion of the elderly, particularly those in nursing homes. Can't get much worse than actively killing large numbers of your own people... that's failing 21st Century Government 101.

Amazing how quickly American deaths just became statistics.

How is this when the churches have been closed and people have been forbidden to attend funerals?

Or one might say

Not a word?s been spoken

The church bells all are broken
