I think it's insane and highly disingenuous to claim "the efficacy of masks was questionable at best"
There's no question they reduce the amount of aerosols people exhale, and hence reduce the transmission of viruses. Fuck, remember that clip TomDalton posted of the guy spraying alcohol, and how much masking the spray, even with a flimsy mask, reduced the flammability? That should've ended the debate for even the most brainless, drooling Trumpers here, but it's unbelievable people are now trying to re-write history in real time, after all we fucking went through for the last year.
A paper or cloth mask won't provide much protection for you if you're going to stand in a COVID-19 ward for an hour; you're going to inhale enough of the viral load to make you sick. But that's not the point, and using that sort of standard to disparage mask use is ridiculous.
