Third question is about who else than harbaugh and the Rolling Stones article. You can tell Dantonio can not wait for the game to absolutely obliterate the Wolverines yet again.

30 days until kick off, it's almost here!!

We only passed the ball 4 times in the 2nd half of last year's blood bath, time to open up the offense all 4 quarters and hang 50 on those chumps.

Are you predicting a win or the moral victory of stopping us somewhere below 50?

I don't know who will win this fall, but I do know you're not putting 50 points up on us anytime soon. maybe ever.

Wasn't the score 10-12 the last time you didn't get to play MICHIGAN at home..?

Good ol' Andrew Maxwell. Last three times the teams played in Ann Arbor, MSU scored 35, 34, and 10. Which of these is not like the others?

I don't really expect MSU to score 50 on UM anyway. MSU lately hasn't been looking to run up the score, and with such a high initial ranking it's unnecessary. Win out, and go to the playoff. Don't, and hope. Margin of victory will only come into play if they lose a game, and I think only OSU would get the benefit of the doubt with one loss in the Big 100.

I also just hope the MSU-UM game is more fun to watch this year. It hasn't really been good since 2009. 2012 might have been fun for UM just for the rare win lately, but it was ugly on both sides (not even ugly in the smashmouth, tough yards kind of way).

Dantonio always gets baited by the media in regards to Harbaugh. The media loves to dig. It will be a close game this year I think. I believe we will win, Cook is used to winning big games and this one isnt as big as several of those (for us). Its a bigger game for UM trying to reestablish themselves in the Big 10 losing 6-7 to MSU (while scraping by in prior wins the last decade) and playing at home.

We let off the gas last year and YES we do that. We stop passing and run up the middle when the game is still within reach. I complain about lack of aggresive passing almost every year. IF youre doing something thats working, dont stop! We let off the gas and gave Michigan their first touchdown against us in 3 years. If we played to stop that it would and should be 3 years. Michigan gets 6 games to warm up for us and they will be hungry. We win (id wager at this early point) but it wont be any sort of blowout.

...

considering the first two games were against RichRod defenses, you still expect that trend to continue?

I give MD a lot of credit for how he deals with some of this crap. I'd be annoyed as hell if I were him if every time a mic was shoved in my face it was an unrelated question.

I love how Harbaugh handles the media - from Michele Tafoya asking him about the M job in 2011 right after Luck, et al clown stomped in the Orange Bowl to the Cowherd interview.

I think the media sucks 99% of the time and MD shows restraint. I think he exaggerates for affect as well, but give him credit. The fuck up on ESPN today was sort of funny but appropriate at the same time.

All that said, I will bet any one of you that state does not score 50 points this year in Ann Arbor. And I will be there at the game to collect in person.

This is the thing and the thing is this-does anybody at Rolling Stone magazine know that Michigan State University exists at all or even has a football team?

Does anybody at Rolling Stone magazine even know that there are other college football games during the college football season besides Ohio State versus Michigan?

It really isn't Dantonio's fault
that Michigan has a transcendental rival and it's not Michigan State.

The Spartans could win the next hundred games in a row and the Martian press will be writing about The Ohio State Michigan rivalry. About The Game.

It's not Dantonio's fault; it's not any Spartan's fault. It's just the way it is.

EDIT: actually, the Spartans could win the next 100 national championships in a row, yet still the only thing about college football that anyone who doesn't follow College football would know about would be the Ohio State Michigan rivalry.

The younger generation does not care about Michigan vs Ohio State because they were not around to watch what happened in the 80s and most of the 90s. All they have seen is Ohio State dominate Michigan for the past 15 years. "Old heads" who are hoping to see Michigan return to its past ways are the only ones who care about the game.

I think Tinsel was just trolling you guys and being sarcastic.

That said, not living in or near MICHIGAN, I rarely if ever hear anything about State other than from Sparties. Nationally people think Ohio state and noter dame when it comes to M rivals.

In state you're right, there are at least as many 'Walmart Spartans' as there are 'Walmart Wolverines' because of Izzo's success and Dantonio's more recently.

Will be interesting next ten years, IMO.

Yep.

I was just joining in on some of the very entertaining smack that has been going on the last day or two across these boards.

It's been pretty funny.

About six or so years ago I met the full back from a 1965 1966 Spartan national championship teams-The guy from Hawaii-I met him at my gym.

I put mine in Michigan cap on and walked up to him all indignant because he had a Spartan On; I'm glad he realized I was joking because he would've turned the crap out of me.

20 years older than me as he was.

I think one of the aspects of the M/MSU rivalry is that most Sparties have no sense of humor whatsoever. They're avery touchy and defensive bunch, with some exception.

And then you woke up.

Funny enough guess who coined the term "Walmart Wolverine"? ME. in 2003ish I lashed out at someone on ESPN for being a loudmouth that goes to walmart gets a shirt and becomes an instant part of a rivalry a "Walmart Wolverine". My overall meaning meant a walmart fan in general, a non affiliate who is overzealous obnoxious no affiliation that just buys a shirt and smack talks with little to no tact or knowledge of sports. The non affiliates are generally the most tactless instigators so I needed something to combat those evil beasts.

A few laughed and then someone there took it to "spartantailgate" (now RCMB) and I saw the term being passed around the next day. It got legs, to websites, t-shirts and a term known by anyone in the rivalry and other schools using it also besides MSU/UM. It is my creation, my masterpiece, my legacy on the message boards.

`I guess if you wear MSU gear around you hear things all the time by people that have no connection to MSU "great game this year etc, so and so is a stud". having a top hoops program over the last 20 years is a good part of that. As far as the MSU / UM Rivalry most people care about the schools in their state/conference or a surrounding state. Most arent yucking it up about other conferences that ive encountered :)

whoa whoa whoa... really? YOU coined the term "walmart wolverine?" if so that makes you maybe the greatest spartan ever (at least in the eyes of your own fanbase).
