Dantonio on ESPN

whoa whoa whoa... really? YOU coined the term "walmart wolverine?" if so that makes you maybe the greatest spartan ever (at least in the eyes of your own fanbase).

It was me, My earlier post was how it happened. I should have trademarked it.

considering the first two games were against RichRod defenses, you still expect that trend to continue?

I don't think Hoke was much better, I just think Maxwell is that bad. I don't expect that trend to continue indefinitely, but I don't expect Michigan to have a great defense this year either.

Harbaugh is miles better than Hoke as a coach. I don't know if he's really that much better than RichRod, who has won a lot of games at other schools, but RichRod was a bad fit from the get-go. I think Harbaugh will get the defense playing more sound, but that may not be enough with so many players that just aren't nearly as good as their recruit ranking suggested. And against MSU, a team with an NFL caliber QB and a really good O-line, I just don't think Harbaugh alone is going to be enough to turn that defense into a great unit.

That said, football has a funny scoring system. Is scoring 28 instead of 35 all that big of a difference when it's really just one score? Similarly, if MSU drops 42 on UM, I don't think it means UM will have necessarily taken a step back on defense. MSU might just have an elite offense this year, and it could even be a shootout on both sides.

Hes not on the same planet as rich rod. To rich rods credit he is winning games with AZ but harbaugh took Stanford from horrible to a top 5 team in 3 years. He was also an nfl coach. You dont land a job like that unless..... Well you see where im going with that. Pre-season hea a top 10 coach in the league

Not sure when that was set up but i first blurted it out off the top of my head in 2003-2004. And once it made it to rcmb (spartantailgate) it was over.

Could be. It looks like its roots are with the RCMB.

The second definition of DSF on this link was entered by the same poster who entered the definition of Walmart Wolverine, and he (one would assume it's a guy) uses in his example the RCMB specifically.

Tanfan and Trevor are totally DSFing on the RCMB!

Harbaugh's records at Stanford:
4-8
5-7
8-5
12-1

Let's not forget he had Andrew Luck for the only two winning seasons he had there. And sorry, I'm not trying to say he's a bad coach. Obviously he's not. But he didn't turn around Stanford in year one at all. It took him three years to have a winning season, and he only once coached Stanford to be a legitimately great team.

UM should be easier because he's starting with a better team, but the hype is way overblowing things. UM is going to get better because they are running through 7 or 8 years of terrible recruiting luck. How well a team recruits is the biggest predictor of future success. UM has been recruiting well the whole time, but so many of their players just haven't been panning out. If UM had just average returns on their recruiting classes, hell RichRod or Hoke may still be in charge.

And you can pin that on the coaches if you want, but they don't play the game for these guys. Hoke and RichRod certainly knew the game inside and out. You don't land a job like that (UM) unless... Well, you see where I'm going with that.

Trevor is the head guy there and tanfan everyone just rips him. I dont expect anyone to believe claims on the internet but it was all me. I didnt think anything of it until i googled a few years back and heard fraternity brothers using it. I bounced from spartantailgate when they changed to rcmb o thought it was going to paid accounts and implemented the "white board" format like espn did

In college sports a coach matters and makes all the difference. I was a year off on harbughs 12-1 season but a 4 year progression with consistent improvement speaks for him. Hes pulling better recruits than he did at stanford. I dont expect 8 wins this year out of them but i dont doubt it either. He is no rich rod

It's as likely it was you that first thought of it as anybody; almost surely it was some Spartan fan, and probably the type of football fan that likes football enough to spend time posting about it on message boards.

Also again, the guy defined it on the Urban Dictionary - pretty much the definition that everybody understands "Walmart Wolverine" to mean - is obviously a poster to the RCMB.

So yeah, he probably first became familiar with it there.

Do you recognize who that poster would be? ChadHenneTailBone on the Urban Dictionary?

I was going to go into why it wouldn't likely have been a Buckeye fan (or Notre Dame) but I decided that that would be too snide, even coming from me.
