Detroit 5 Nashville 3 Final

holy shit...hockey season is starting already??? The NBA hasn't even started pre season yet, have they?

I wish we didn't have to wait so long as the season starts tonight. Nonetheless I'll be watching some games later today.

Looks like Grand Rapids has a bunch of # 1 picks playing in Gr.

I think the NHL should start giving credit to a defensive player for the Hart Memorial Trophy. Only one defensive player since Bobby Hull.

What do you mean by defensive player?

Lindstrom like. Players that have a D next to the their name. Of course Hull was an offensive defenseman. I mean if a G can win the award why not a guy that is defense first.

Hart trophy is voted on by members of the professional hockey writers association.

They aren't exactly the brightest bunch. Recall when they voted Ovechkin as LW and RW of all-star team. Despite all receiving a memo from the league that Ovechkin mostly played RW that season.

Another reason is that they do not properly understand what the award is.

Most members vote on the premise they are voting for the BEST player in the league. That is actually the Ted Lindsay trophy, and voted on by the players.

The MVP is supposed to be to the single player who was MOST IMPORTANT TO HIS TEAM.

For example, Mark Stone was more important to Ottawa than say any STAR on Tampa Bay. Tampa is so stacked if you lose 1 star it don't really affect the team. The team would still be dominant.

Back to assessment of the professional writers. It is easier to seperate the contributions of forwards by their offensive output. For a defenseman, there is oh so much more to that position. It is also why so many goalies get tons of votes for the Hart.

Not just the NHL. MLB doesn't quite understand what MVP stands for. And forget about the NFL its basically QB and occasional RB. But you better have a huge year and it doesn't matter if the team finishes with 4 wins. And forget defense (1986).

#RedWings Larkin said he feels great, all tests were negative and he will play Saturday.

#RedWings Blashill said Athanasiou might practice tomorrow and if so he’d be a game time decision for Saturday. If he doesn’t practice tomorrow, not likely to play.
