Detroit Lions 2024 Off Season Thread

If the Lions really didn't know about the situation then that police department failed miserably if they didn't contact his NFL team to at least attempt to get some assistance regarding his whereabouts.
great point. My guess is the Lions were informed. Maybe not exactly what was going on, but definitely were asked if they knew where he was.

Damn, that's horrible news on Cam Sutton. Was a big fan of him when he was on the Steelers, even though he's from UT.

I would imagine his career is over.

If they really want to find him, look 10 yards behind every #1 wr in the nfc.
This is classic!!
Bad news and heartbreaking for the female involved. Unbelievably awesome news for Lions fans. Dude was trash. If you need a 1st down with 22yds to go, throw it Cam Sutton's way. Odds are, he'll be running in the opposite direction.

Lions can recoup 10 million of his salary when NFL rules on it

So right now 12 million dead but made June 1st cut. So 12 million dead same as his cap number if league does nothing or the Lions get 10 extra million in space this year when the league voids the 10 million salary. 6.5 million dead cap hit next year though but they could roll over that 10 million from this year to cover it since we still have so much cap space.

Also

Davis>>Sutton
Robertson or Moseley>>Jacobs, Dorsey or Vildor
Robertson or Moseley>>Jacobs, Dorsey or Vildor as top backup
Branch year 2> Branch rookie

If Moseley healthy and Robertson plays some nickel, Branch can play some safety in CGJ role with Ife and Jospeh and Branch all on the field.
Plus have the draft to add a CB or safety depth
And 10 million in savings this year when the league rules on Sutton that can be rolled over if unused to 2025

Much better shape

Better shape but id say we still need a cb. Moseley won't be ready till mid year at best? I read somewhere that the lions protect themselves in their contacts from these types of situations so they just pay the signing bonus...i think that should mean that we don't need to wait for an nfl ruling.

Use that money for gillmore?... or wait for draft?

Agree we still should draft a CB though at 29 or 61. Another short term CB fine but 2025 big need as Davis and Moseley and Dorsey all in contract years

So Stephon Gilmore would be nice (and have another brother pairing) and I wouldn't mind it. 2025 we need a CB unless they extend Davis (they already restructured him)

Davis, Robertson, Branch second year improvement in starters already though. But you can never have enough corners

Robertson got 2 year 9.25 million so that's basically a depth type signing but was a starter for Raiders. And Moseley super cheap 2 million cap hit due to injuries. Moseley was ready to play if not for a separate setback (hamstring in camp) by Week 1 last year. He got injured in October both years. I think Moseley could be ready Week 1 this year. If not Robertson for 4 weeks starter then Moseley is back. Moseley practice at camp some I thought last year.

I'll be interested to see what Lions do

Dorsey and younger Gilmore could step up too

Lions plan was Sutton, Davis, Robertson and Moseley though all on the team at same time maybe. Unless they knew March 7th about Sutton which was before free agency started. Just feels like they did despite what they said. And maybe why they added Robertson because they knew about Sutton

Sutton being gone is going to hurt.

Also crazy to see the Titans get Sneed from the Chiefs for so little. He would have been an awesome addition, but there's no telling what his contract extension will be.

Matched Brock Wright. 3 years 12 million. He is staying

Re-signed Kindle Vildor for depth at CB

On the second day of the Detroit Lions' offseason program, left tackle Taylor Decker was made available to the media and revealed two things: he has had talks with the team about an extension, and he had offseason surgery.

Decker stated that the offseason surgery was on his ankle and foot and the issue stemmed from an injury he's been dealing with since college.

While he expects to be limited during the spring, the 29-year-old says he'll no doubt be ready for the start of the season and is feeling great.

A+ draft pick. Huge need. Best corner and top 10 talent taken at bottom of the first rd. Didn't give up too much to get a starting cb.

Agreed. A great replacement for Sutton.

Loved the pick. Long term need and could be a day 1 starter over Robertson and Moseley. Lions have a really good CB room. Basically had to give up the 3rd but that's fine. Could Robertson play some nickel too and Branch moves around like CGJ did at safety and nickel some too.

2nd round pick - Ennis Rakestraw Jr - CB Missouri

No practice squad players at corner this year, damn.

With the selection of Mizzou Football CB Ennis Rakestraw in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Lionshave now selected a cornerback with their first two picks of a given Draft for the first time in the Super Bowl era.
Rakestraw produced an 80.7 overall PFF grade in 2023 and logged an 89.0 PFF run-defense grade.

For the first time in franchise history, Detroit has selected a player from the same program in the first round of three-straight NFDrafts:
‘24: ArnoldTerrion
‘23: Jahmyr Gibbs
‘22: Jameson Williams

Barring a trade, the Lions remaining picks today are
Round 5 (29th)
Round 6 (25th)
Round 6 (29th)
Round 7 (29th)

Lions trade up to the 4th round to grab Giovanni Manu OT British Columbia.

8 potential starting dbs for 5 spots. Should be good competition.

Joseph, ife, branch

Davis, arnold, robertson, rakestraw, Moseley

Ima go: Joseph, ife, branch, davis, arnold.

Lions trade up again, this time for S/RB hybrid Sione Vaki from Utah.

Interesting tidbit from Pouncey was that he met with offensive coaches in his visit. Some have also thought he'd be a good KR specialist in the new kickoff rules.
