Detroit Lions FA Thread

My focus would be on DRC and Peppers the rest of the way. then a 2nd rate S like ihheubeghonodoco.

From mlive: According to an NFLPA report, the Lions still have $6.9 million in space.*

Dave Birkett said today they were near 4.5M. They were at 6.9 before Tate

It'd definitely be nice if we could get Suh to sign an extension soon now that he has an agent. I think I remember LKP saying it'd free up 6 million in cap space. But it just depends on how much he's asking for.

Suh is starting to look pretty selfish at this point. I was trying to be patient but this is ridiculous.

Baaaah, what's he supposed to do?? Both sides aren't talking right now. Why is it Suh's fault?

I don't think Suh is doing anything abnormal for a pro athlete. The selfless "sign it for the good of the team" contract is the rarity. How often does that work out anyway in terms of titles? He will squeeze every drop that he can,.....unless he just doesn't want to play here. In which case fuck him anyway.

If he wouldn't have waited so long to get representation, I have to believe they'd have entered talks by now. I like Suh and have been one of his biggest "fan boys" but none of it makes any sense.

Ive seen both Birkett and Justin Rogers say this week that they thought a new deal probably wouldn`t get dont till May

Yeah maybe, but we don't know for sure. It's Suh. He's a different breed. I hope he wants to stay, but if he doesn't, Mayhew better be on the horn with teams looking to trade his ass. No way in the world I want to see him in a lions uni all year with no long-term contract.

This is the realistic way this kind of thing goes down. May seems reasonable. It's sort of like people who suggest trading down as a draft strategy, while it might be best for our team, there is a second party involved with which you have no control over. What if Suh doesn't want to play here? What if no one wants draft pick 10?

Well if he chooses to play out this contract and leave, we are going to have a shit ton of space open up.

Absolutely. A lot could be done with that amount of money to better the roster. Suh is a bad man but look at our record with him. I still say sign him if you can, but if not oh well.

Has anyone considered that while the Lions want Suh back, maybe they don't want to re-do this year's contract?

Think about it, they are in good position even with his $22.5M number. Why kick that can further down the road so you have to face it again?

Let him play with that number this year, then get him under contract at a better number. In which case, there is no rush to get this done.

Honestly if I am Mayhew, I am asking myself why I would free up that money now, deal with it later anyway, and for which free agents left out there is it really worth it?

He still would count 10M against the cap next year if he walks, but it is still 12M cheaper than this year

Chris Clemons, Thomas Decoud, DRC, Reed Doughty.... All secondary help that I would consider good talent that we should be looking at adding.

I agree ink. Sign him next year if you want..I know he'd save some money and if there isn't an extension we might not have the money to sign a particular guy but we current have enough to sign a couple guys plus the draft..let it ride. I'm tired of the big three just "kicking" it down further.
