Detroit Lions FA Thread

????

Depends on what they ask of him, I guess.

They drafted a gunslinger, a guy in the Favre mold, who is going to throw some picks. It's gonna happen. If they ask him to tone it down a little and help him with his footwork but still take his shots, I think he'll work hard and try to make the adjustments.

If they ask him to be Joey "dumpdown" Harrington and dink and dunk all game and not take shots downfield.....then he'll probably say "F OFF".....as he should do in that situation.

This is what he needs to do. I think he makes makes some really poor decisions as well....some of it probalby has to do with his "gunslinger" mentality but some others are just head scratchers.

The key is him improving his accuracy. He misses some of the easiest passes.

Id say most of his accuracy issues are due to his poor footwork and mechanics. Most. Some of it is just inaccuracy. He's not Manning or Brady.....probably wont ever be a 70% passer.......but he certainly could be a 65% with a few adjustments.

I think it will take more than a few adjustments for him to get to 65%. His career % is under 60% and his best season is 63.5%. His career passer rating is only 83.1. Active players with better passer ratings:

Rodgers
Manning
Rivers
Romo
Brady
Brees
Big Ben
Ryan
Schaub
Newton
Palmer
Garrard
Cuntler
Flacco

That does not include who didn't have enough starts to qualify in pro football reference games played

Wilson 101.2
Kapernick 93.8
Dalton 85.7

Bottom line...he just isn't efficient. I certainly hope these new coaches can change that. The NFL is not a gunslinger's league anymore!!

I'm a homer, and I admit that... but even I think 10-11 wins is a complete stretch where we sit right now.

We are still behind the Bears, behind the Packers, and I am honestly not sure how the Vikings stack up against us. Let us now forget they won 10 games a season ago, and followed that up with three first round picks. Was 2013 the real Vikings, or just a bad blip?

I for one can't say.... but right there we have the serious potential of losing 6 games in our own division. Not saying we will, we are equally as capable of sweeping the division.

But 10-11 wins? That's a hell of a feat for a team that sniffed the playoffs once in the last decade.

Teams win and lose games.....not just QB's.

This will be a 10-11 win team with Stafford......a 6-7 win team without him.

then why do teams cut tim tebow and get peyton manning? The "teams win games" schtick is the dumbest shit I ever heard. Especially our team who ranks pretty bad defensively and it took a blizzard of the ages in order for our special teams to do anything worthwhile :D

once in the last decade+ but people still point to our playoff blowout loss year as "the real lions." Cause that is something to aspire too, apparently :D

What do you think he's doing? He's dinking and dunking..At least that's what he did last season. Don't make it sound like he was Brett Favre last year.

The definition of $taff has always been he can make any throw. Problem is they are far and wide between..he has no touch on the ball. The dudes accuracy was horrible in college not a huge surprise it's underwhelming at the pro level. No way he's a 65% guy..even for a year.

Lol......he was 6th in the NFL in yards/completion last year out of 37 qualifiers. How is that dinking and dunking?

It's called throwing it short to CJ and Bush etc. and let them run. What kind of deep throws did you see him make? Plus yards per attempt is a better measuring stick..

11th in YPA. You really have no clue how teams defend us do you.

To your what, -100. Have you said anything at all that makes sense? You don't even talk football.

CJ, Bell, Bush - all top 20 in YAC. Top 11, woo. His deep ball is not good.

Gotta disagree with ya here Mitch, and I have no stats to back it up, just my eyes.

I have seen Stafford time and time again hit CJ on the deep ball, and make damned impressive deep throw to boot.

50 yard over the shoulder fades that land right in the mans hands with his head never turning.

Stafford has the arm. I think the lack of consistent deep passes was more the way Linehan called the plays than it was the way Stafford throws them.

I have no idea if Caldwell will change that at all, or if Lombardi plans to air it out, but if they do, I think Stafford will hit the open man more than he will miss him. The question to me is how open CJ can be and if Golden Tate can draw that extra coverage off him?

Maybe my eyes aren't as good as they use to be but I don't see those throws at all..maybe once every 20 times he throws it. I saw him going short, basically pleading him to go deep and then he did - I was mistaken, realizing he couldn't doit.

Stafford threw exactly 60 passes in the air 20 or more yards last year. 3.75, almost 4 a game. And with the way teams defend us (two deep safeties), that is probably about right.

Tom Brady 65
Brees 72
Big Ben 66 including 0/7 from over 40

I guess I have a different definition of deep. 20 yards I see as mid, deep like 40. What's his accuracy on those 60 mid-passes?
