Detroit Lions FA Thread

Suh could obviously switch to DE, he's played there before. We could draft a big NT.

But here's a thought for you.......

What about drafting a Nix type NT, a big massive guy, and switching both Suh and Fairley to DE, moving Ansah back to rush LB with his speed and length?

Yeah, hadn't considered that had ya? Three DT front basically in a 3-4.

Its just not a prototypical 3 -4 front. Its kinda just throwing guys in new spots eventhough it might not be their strengths. Which could be a reason why Fairley wasn't extended. Youre paying 2 first round 4-3 DTs to line up over a tackle or in a 3 technique and telling them theyre responsible for run gap control in the B gap. Their strength has always been causing havoc to get to the qb. Im sure this will be a major talking point in the Suh negotiation.....not so sure hes willing to make the change....a lot of guys are hesitant to do that so I cant really blame him if that ends up being the case. Do you really want to pay a 15mil ish DT to play out of position and control run gaps? KC tried to make it work for years with guys that didn't fit their system....it got Gunther fired lol.

You are missing the point entirely brother. I never said it was a good plan. I just thought it was a funny one to think about.

I'm never a fan of fitting a player into a new system. I believe in drafting the right guy for your system. I was just joking about putting Fairley at DE, although I was serious about Suh being able to make the switch. He's line up on the outside before.

No way we are switching to a 3-4. One big reason Whisenhunt didn't come here. We want to stay with 4-3 mainly.

I thought the reason was because we started negotiating with caldwell so he thought he didn't have a shot and went to tenn first and never left?

Is that what he said? The reason he didn't come here?

Yep, read it on ESPN I think, pretty recently.

He said that the Lions started negotiating with Caldwell, and he didn't believe he was going to be their guy. Said Mayhew even told him that Caldwell was choice #1a and he was #1b.

So he took the Titans offer instead. He didn't want them to hire another coach and he would be shit out of luck if the Lions got Caldwell.

So for all the "Wisenhunt spurns Lions" headlines, it looks like we got the guy Mayhew wanted, oddly enough.

Okay thanks. But I was really responding to LKP "we were always going to be 4-3" so he went else where.

I'm not saying it's not true, but I have a tough time believing it...especially when you consider the plane to San Diego evidence. This, to me, reeks of oddly late damage control. Perhaps, the odd lateness makes it true though?

Just like when you want a guy in the draft but he's gone and you get someone else "he was the guy we targeted all along"

then mayhews an idiot...

this from the guy that hired Schwartz. extended him. then wanted him fired a year later which would cost the franchise millions. YAaaaaaaa im trusting that GMs judgement......riiiiIIIIiiiight.....

At the end of the day it doesn't matter. neither coach is elite. nor is the GM or the front office. Ever wondered why that is? because Ford motor's is #1 priority and the Lions are a hobby.

oh... and I think its hillarious that a lions fa thread can be 1177 posts long and counting when in reality, I dt that had 36 tackles and 5.5 sacks holds a gun to their head.... stupid organization.

Not sure how voting goes but he was 2nd team All-Pro..I also think the old staff under utilized him with the play calling.
