Detroit Lions FA Thread

HHCD visited Monday...

"Yet the Lions have not made any real impact moves defensively during free agency. They signed two defensive linemen for depth -- Vaughn Martin and Darryl Tapp -- and let a productive defensive end, Willie Young, leave for Chicago.

In the secondary, the Lions have only visited with one free agent, safety James Ihedigbo, and he left without signing a contract. That might happen, but until it does, that leaves Detroit without any impact changes in the defensive backfield. The most noticeable move they have made was bringing in Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, a potential first-round pick, for a visit Monday."

Maybe 10 is a tad high, a small tad but I wouldn't be upset with him at 10.

Unless our scouting department suddenly goes completely fertada on us, we're going to get a good young player at #10, and one who might develop into a great player.

There aren't too many guys we "might" take I would be upset with at #10. Too many times teams say "Hey, this guy is a reach at 10, we might get him at 15" and they trade back to see the guy taken at 12.

If they have their guy at 10, take him. Don't trade back and try to nitpick the draft.. just take your guy and be happy he was there for you.

If, however, they aren't really sold on any of the guys who are on the board at 10, then trade back.

I think another reason to trade back to 15ish is if theyre sold on 5 or 6 guys. We have that many needs right now that the extra pick can only help.

HHCD, Pryor, Lewan, Barr, Dennard, Gilbert....good chance they are all still on the board when were up to bat.

Trading back for multiple picks is always my preference. Draft picks are always a crap shoot anyway. The more picks you have the better odds you will get players that produce and build depth which is probably the Lions biggest weakness. Look at the 49ers. They have one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the NFL. Last year I think they had 13-14 picks. This year they have 13 including 6 picks in the first 3 rounds. That is how you build a team!

Dave Birkett @davebirkett
As expected, fullback Jed Collins signed with the Lions today. It's a one-year, minimum salary benefit deal.

wonder what the plan is here. Guy hasn't done much,.....competition for Owens? meh

i think caldwell wants a true FB in the fold

The backfield is looking pretty crowded,.....someone isn't making the team. We usually carry what 4 running backs?
