Despite entering the draft with six picks, tied for the fewest in the league, Detroit packaged its original second-round choice (No. 51) along with their fourth-round pick (No. 117) to the New England Patriots to make the move up to No. 43.

The Detroit Lions taking Kerryon Johnson from Auburn gives the franchise another power back option to pair with LeGarrette Blount, Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick.
Johnson's selection doesn't bode well for the futures of Dwayne Washington and Tion Green with the franchise. Depending on roles, it could put Zach Zenner in trouble, too.

Detroit Lions – Round 2, Pick 43: Kerryon Johnson, RB, Auburn
Johnson is a shifty back with good elusiveness despite not being an explosive athlete. I wasn’t sure NFL teams would love him, but he was pretty highly rated for me. Obviously something is going on to drop Derrius Guice down the board, so not knowing what that reason is, this pick makes sense for the Lions. They finally get the every-down back they needed who can finish through contact and create some on his own. Big pick.

1A & 1B) Defensive end and defensive tackle;

I didn’t watch Walker, but Jonah Tuls did and he likes him. Versatile player who can do a couple different things for a defense. Matt Patricia’s kind of guy.

Darius Slay and new Lions DB Tracy Walker both went to Brunswick High School in Georgia.

Tracy Walker and Darius Slay are 2nd cousins.

Walker has an above-average blend of size, length and top-end speed for a safety with the range to cover a deep half. He is at is best in underneath zone and grades out as reserve with some upside and the tools to become a core player on special teams.

Tracy Walker is a Free Safety who can cover and has experience at CB and NB. He could see the field as a NB or 3rd safety and develop in Glover Quin's replacement down the road. 33.5" arms is impressive length, but he just missed in 3 of the 4 QIB categories, with his best the 3C

The Lions took safety Tracy Walker from Louisiana-Lafayette in the third round. Walker ran the 40 in 4.51 seconds at the combine and had 97 tackles and two interceptions last year for the Ragin' Cajuns. Otherwise, don't know much about him at all -- but kind of surprising the Lions are again passing up on defensive line. Again.
