Lions 2018 training camp dates, open practice schedule announced.
The Lions announced their training camp schedule on Wednesday.

With the OTA portion of the offseason nearly done, all focus now turns to training camp, which remains over a month away.

However, the Detroit Lions announced a portion of their training camp schedule on Wednesday morning, making it feel like it?s so much closer to be here.

Specifically, the Lions released their training camp schedule for practices open to the public. The first of which kicks off on July 27 with a practice opened only to season ticket holders. From there, the Lions have a total of 12 open practices to the public? a significant increase from last years? total of just seven.

Here?s a look at the entire schedule, as provided by DetroitLions.com:

NOTE: On 7/26, the Lions changed the times of some of these practices. Please check below to see the most recent times:
FRIDAY, JULY 27 (exclusive to season ticket holders)
Gates: 8:15 AM
Practice: 9:15 AM

SATURDAY, JULY 28 (exclusive to season ticket holders)
Gates: 8:15 AM
Practice: 9:15 AM

SUNDAY, JULY 29
Gates: 8:15 AM
Practice: 9:15 AM

MONDAY, JULY 30
Gates: 8:15 AM
Practice: 9:15 AM

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1
Gates: 8:15 AM
Practice: 9:15 AM

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2
Gates: 8:15 AM
Practice: 9:15 AM

FRIDAY, AUGUST 3
Gates: 8:15 AM
Practice: 9:15 AM

SATURDAY, AUGUST 4
Gates: 8:30 AM
Practice: 9:30 AM

MONDAY, AUGUST 6
Gates: 8:30 AM
Practice: 9:30 AM

Joint practices with the Giants
TUESDAY, AUGUST 14 (exclusive to season ticket holders)
Gates: 8:00 AM
Practice: 9:00 AM (tentatively scheduled)

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15
Gates: 8:00 AM
Practice: 9:00 AM (tentatively scheduled)

THURSDAY, AUGUST 16
Gates: 8:00 AM
Practice: 9:00 AM (tentatively scheduled)
So not only are fans getting more opportunities to see the Lions during training camp, but they?ll also be able to see joint practices with the Giants, presuming the tentatively scheduled practices aren?t cancelled or moved. That will be a pretty awesome experience for fans to see, considering these joint practices are a relatively new phenomenon, and fans haven?t been treated to this sort of spectacle at Allen Park.

Lions have signed free agents DT Ricky Jean Francois and LB Darnell Sankey.

Team also announced that they have waived LB Al-Rasheed Benton and OL Beau Nunn,

and have placed LB Devon Kennard and DE Cornelius Washington on Active-Non Football Injury.

The NFI List is similar to PUP, it just means they got injured in a non-football situation. They can play as soon as they are cleared.

Three potential defensive starters in the front seven will begin camp by potentially missing practice (they can come off at any time) joining Ezekiel Ansah on PUP.

While the exact reason for Kennard's NFI designation is not known, a person familiar with the decision said the linebacker will be back before the regular season begins Sept. 10 against the New York Jets.
