Detroit Lions - Team Notes

It's still early, but rookie running back Kerryon Johnson has consistently flashed as a runner with good vision and speed. LeGarrette Blount and Theo Riddick will still get their share of the work (Blount potentially on early downs and in short-yardage and Riddick in the passing game) but Johnson is showing real potential as a runner. A word of warning, though, is this is still early in camp and against a defense still picking up a new scheme. But the skill set is there.

Going back through my notes from practice today, both Matthew Stafford and Jake Rudock had impeccable throws at certain points. Rudock hit TJ Jones deep over Teez Tabor on a corner route that was essentially a perfect pass -- a potential sign of growth from the third-year quarterback. Rudock did have some passes broken up, though, including a nice diving breakup by Christian Jones and another by Jamal Agnew. Meanwhile Stafford was his typical self. He hit Luke Willson, Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones on deep routes with such a high level of precision. It should be expected at this point, but he's very in tune with his offense and the receivers in it.

NFL scout thinks Matthew Stafford is holding Detroit back.
?Anonymous NFL scout? just needs to go away.
File this under ?Shut up anonymous scout or put your name to it,? but an unnamed NFL scout told Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report that ?average quarterback play? is holding the Detroit Lions back and that Matthew Stafford needs to up his game. Freeman states the NFL scout is ?not prone to ridiculous takes? but the evidence suggests otherwise.

Just a day after being waived by the Lions, offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty was claimed by the Carolina Panthers.
