Dalvin Cook's 70-yard run on the Lions was the fourth 50-plus yard rush Detroit has given up this season, most in the NFL according to ESPN Stats & Information. On that one, Cook had an open lane between A'Shawn Robinson & Ricky Jean Francois.
Lions had Ezekiel Ansah in, by my count, for seven snaps in the first half against the Vikings (six plays, one no-play). He had one offsides call and one sack of Kirk Cousins, where he showed the burst and speed that made him one of the most feared pass rushers in the league when he's healthy.
Rough first half for the Detroit Lions defense. The run defense is still struggling -- with another 50-plus yard run given up -- and the pass rush has been largely non-existent other than an Ezekiel Ansah sack. Detroit's offense has moved OK, but the same red zone stalling issues have come up, with both red zone chances ending in field goals instead of touchdowns. Detroit is going to need to fix that if it is going to want a shot against Minnesota.
Another game, another loss for the Detroit Lions where the franchise just looked unprepared to play in a 24-9 loss at Minnesota. In four of Detroit's five losses this season (at Dallas being the exception) at least one phase of the team has looked quite poor. Against Minnesota, it was both the offense and defense that had issues -- which is foreboding for the rest of the season. The offense failed to score a touchdown and the defense once again allowed a running back to gash them -- including a 70-yarder from Dalvin Cook. The most baffling thing for the Lions at this point is how Detroit can either look extremely good or extremely bad with very little room in the middle.
Conversation after the Lions' loss between defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson and the media: Reporter: (Question about the run defense) ROBINSON: Why are you asking me, you know I don't like y'all? Reporter: Because you're part of the defensive line, just figured? ROBINSON: Does it look like I talk to y'all? You know (inaudible) Reporter: What was that? ROBINSON: I said get out of my face.
