Tuesday is typically workout day in the NFL. With the rest of the players off, the personnel staff brings in a slew of free agents to update their scouting profile on available players just in case of injury. In some cases, these workouts lead to immediate signings. In other cases, they could lead to a signing down the road, if necessary. In most cases, it means nothing more than making sure a player is still someone you don?t really want to sign.

That being said, the Detroit Lions reportedly worked out former Panthers running back C.J. Anderson this week.

Anderson was cut a few weeks back by Carolina after being phased out of the Panthers offensive gameplan. Last year, Anderson ran for over 1,000 yards with the Broncos and has averaged 4.4 yards per carry over his 5.5-year career.

While no signing appears to be imminent, you have to wonder if the Lions would consider bringing in Anderson in for the rest of the season. Detroit just placed Marvin Jones Jr. on injured reserve, and rookie running back Kerryon Johnson is currently dealing with a knee injury of unknown severity. Are the Lions considering ending his season early, too?

Though LeGarrette Blount is coming off his best game as a Lion, the veteran running back may not be back next year. If the Lions were to add Anderson, they could give him a four or five-game audition to be the complementary back behind Johnson next year.
