Pride Of Detroit Lions PODcast spends a week in Lions playoff delirium. 63 minutes.
DON?T TAKE AWAY OUR DREAMS. IT?S ALL WE HAVE.

We?re getting dangerously close to the end of the 2018 NFL season. With just three weeks left in the Detroit Lions? disappointing season, it?s time to start shifting to 2019 free agency and the NFL Draft.

The Detroit Lions may have won against the Arizona Cardinals, but their pla?

PLAYOFF CHANCES, LET?S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
This week, the PODcast cares not for offseason talk nor coaching changes. Week 14 went perfectly for the Lions? playoff chances, and we?re going to spend a week in delirium, whether you like it or not. The regular season is supposed to be fun, and so we?re trying to keep it that way regardless of what your stupid math machine is saying.

With Ryan Mathews a healthy scratch?the Teez Tabor special?we brought in Mike Payton and Mansur Shaheen to help take part in the festivities this week.

This week on the PODcast:
The Lions-Cardinals game was insufferable.
The offense is painful to watch and also just straight-up boring.

But how about that defense?
How much credit goes to Detroit?s defenders and how much is just the Arizona Cardinals sucking?

Good Jarrad Davis showed up. Now can he string together a couple of good performances?

Life is good when Darius Slay is playing like himself.

INJURIES WHY??!!

PLAYOFFS, PLAYOFFS, PLAYOFFS, PLAYOFFS, PLAYOFFS. The gang goes through all of the not-quite-impossible scenarios in which the Lions are in.

Mailbag tackles fast food desserts, Zach Zenner overhype and MORE AUDIBLE DONG!

Detroit Lions Podcast Episode 190 ? Lions Look To The Buffalo Bills. 69 minutes.

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case take a look at the Detroit Lions win over the Arizona Cardinals, likely Ziggy Ansah?s last game for the Lions, the view on tanking for a draft pick, this season?s unsung heroes, a perspective on the season so far, a look ahead to the Bills, and Case takes us around the division. This episode is buff and moves like Zach Zenner. Try to keep up.

Detroit Lions Podcast Enjoys A Win
This week we begin by reviewing the Lions big win over the Arizona Cardinals. It wasn?t a fun game to watch. It was a defensive contest that the Lions were able to take away from the Cards on the road. The injured and beleaguered offense continued to underperform, but despite a number of injuries (including to Da?Shawn Hand and Ezekiel Ansah) the Lions prevailed. We discuss what Ziggy?s injury means and why this was likely his last game for the Lions. Tough way to go out.

The we talk about tanking and why it?s not a good idea, unless you want to lose a locker room. We understand where people?s hearts are, but you can?t neuter these cats, they are going to play until the final whistle. Unless you listen to the Freep. Then you think Coach Patricia lost them in July.

Thanks to a great post from /u/Waxxo we talk about some of the team?s unsung heroes of the 2018 season. It isn?t over, and there isn?t a postmortem to be written, but a few guys deserve recognition for their great work. We review their accomplishments and add a few of the Detroit Lions Podcast favorite players to the list.

Changes Have Been Happening In The Secondary
Shhh, don?t say anything, but the Lions secondary has been evolving. Tracy Walker has been increasing his snap count as Glover Quin?s drop. We noticed Glover showing some signs of age on the field early in the season, and look at that? The team has quietly been making changes and getting the heir apparent up to speed. They?ve been doing it to good effect as well.

Moving ahead, we take a look at the slow start to the season, and the ways in which the team has improved throughout the year. There?s another team who has been doing things in a similar fashion for a while. While many people (including us at time) had their toasters ready, maybe we can unplug them in the short term?

Lastly, Case takes us for a Detroit Lions Podcast favorite ? a quick run ?Around the Division? where we discuss the Green Bay Packers coaching changes and how they might actually hurt the team. We move to the Minnesota Vikings, their injury situation, and the firing their OC. Then of course there?s the Chicago Bears and their love of sausages. We?ll chat about them as well.

Lions offensive line coach Jeff Davidson ranked dead last in coaching value.
The Lions offensive line coach doesn?t exactly have a great resume.

The Detroit Lions? offensive line improvement this year has been noticeable, but probably not as significant as hoped or expected. The addition of Frank Ragnow has been promising, and the Lions finally have a running game that isn?t ranked towards the bottom of the league in every statistical category.
Last week was the perfect example of how the Lions are now capable of putting games away with their running game, as they average 4.2 yards per carry (t-18th) and 103.0 rushing yards per game (23rd).

But one metric suggests that one of the bigger changes the Lions made to the offensive line?adding Jeff Davidson to the coaching staff?is a move that could potentially backfire.

Optimum Scouting?s Justis Mosqueda developed a metric combining the ?sack value? and ?TFL value? of every offensive line coach, using their resume dating back to 2004 to see which offensive line coaches have added the most value to their team.

Davidson came in dead last per Mosqueda?s ranks. Where he particularly has hurt offensive lines appears to be in pass protection. He has the second-lowest ?sack value? of all 34 qualifying coaches, with only former Raiders offensive line coach Tom Cable. It?s hard to argue against this point when the Lions have allowed 37 sacks this season (2.8 per game), just barely above their pace from last year (2.9).

However, this study doesn?t offer much context, either. Personnel is not part of the equation, and Davidson has had to take over some pretty unsuccessful offensive lines in the past. As we pointed out in our coaching resume earlier in the year, Davidson helped turn around some pretty poor rushing attacks in
New England, Carolina and Minnesota. However, the pass protection issues did seem to follow him wherever he went?especially in Minnesota.
