According to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com, there's "no question" Anquan Boldin will open the season as the Lions' No. 3 receiver.
Meinke said Boldin has looked "that good" in camp. Boldin will likely handle slot receiver with Golden Tate and Marvin Jones outside. Even while being plagued with poor quarterback play in San Francisco last season, Boldin managed a respectable 69 catches for 789 yards and four touchdowns. T.J. Jones, Jay Lee and Quinshad Davis round out the rest of Detroit's receiving corps.

Dwayne Washington, the Lions' seventh round pick from Washington, just showed his potential. He just returned a kick 96 yards for a touchdown. Impressive play for him. He's had his struggles with ball security in camp, but his size and speed are reasons to keep an eye on him with a roster spot. He could end up in the mix on kick return.

LIONS 30, STEELERS 17 (FINAL): Detroit's depth was the most impressive thing Friday night as their second-and-third units were impressive. Considering GM Bob Quinn focused on building the middle of the roster this offseason, that could be a good sign. Individually, rookie Dwayne Washington might have inserted himself into the kick return conversation. The biggest concern? The starting offensive line, which struggled to protect Matthew Stafford in his one series.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell in postgame said offensive tempo isn't where he wants it yet. Called it "methodical," though. Here's the thing, and this is my opinion: The Lions struggled with pace last season. Went far too slow considering offensive weapons. Fast pace will benefit this offense if blocking holds up.
