Lions' pass catchers eyeing unique reception record.
Lions.com

If Theo Riddick catches four passes Sunday in Chicago, and Calvin Johnson is able to haul in two, the Lions will have three players reach 80 receptions on the season for the first time in franchise history.

Three players reaching 80 receptions on the same team in a season has been accomplished only four times in NFL history. The 2014 Bears (Matt Forte, Martellus Bennett and Alshon Jeffery) did it, as did the 2011 Saints (Jimmy Graham, Darren Sproles and Marques Colston), the 2002 Raiders (Jerry Rice, Charlie Garner and Tim Brown) and the 2000 Rams (Isaac Bruce, Tory Holt and Marshall Faulk).

ESPN ran a long profile of Martha Ford and why she may be just the change the Lions needed. The following snippet is particularly interesting:

The first time Accorsi met with Ford at her home last month to discuss the Lions' GM search, their conversation drifted toward how the club has played indoors dating to its days at the Pontiac Silverdome.

"I told her I think it tends to make teams soft when they don't play in the elements all the time," Accorsi said, "and Mrs. Ford shot back, 'I couldn't agree with you more. I've always thought the same thing.'

Why Martha Ford, 90, has been exactly the owner the Lions need. Great Read.

Lions’ owner Martha Ford is simply tired of losing.
Detroit Lions owner Martha Ford is not happy with the losses that the Detroit Lions have accumulated this season and she’s ready for it to stop. The team began 1-7 this year and that was when team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew were shown the door and fired. Ernie Accorsi is advising the Lions as they search for a new GM, and he has heard the feelings of Martha Ford.

“All I know is she wants to win, now,” Accorsi told ESPN writer Johnette Howard,who wrote a long feature for the Worldwide Leader on the 90-year-old Ford. “She wants this so badly. She really does. She’s tired of losing.”

There are going to be a lot of changes coming to the Detroit Lions in 2016, and it will happen on the field, on the sidelines and in the executive offices. Martha Ford is done with losing and wants to have people in place that will win.

from Michael Rothstein;

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said LT Riley Reiff has shown he can play LT be because he's done it before so he can play anywhere on the line.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said he thinks "absolutely" Teryl Austin should be in the mix for head coaching jobs this offseason.

Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter said he wasn't disappointed the Lions blocked him interviewing with Chicago last offseason for the Bears OC gig. Said he has learned a lot from Adam Gase.

Lions DC Teryl Austin was asked what he learned about himself this year -- said he's never gone through an NFL season losing that many games early. "All the things you talk about and preach to your players, can you do it as a coach?"

Calvin Johnson appears confident he will play in Sunday's regular-season finale. Megatron doesn't expect to need offseason surgery on a nagging ankle injury,

Jason Jones and Travis Swanson not participating in open portions of Lions practice -- the first outdoor practice in over a month.
