Detroit Lions - Team Notes

These are great, I had seen some but not all of them.

When I used to play the Madden video games, you could unlock 'legendary' players. I would save all my points for when they released Night Train so I could have the best odds of attaining him.

I didn't get to see him play but if I ever buy a Lions jersey, it will be a #81 with his name on it.

It has to be over 30 years ago, I was reading this book by the great Jim Brown. In it he was talking about the defensive players who gave him the toughest games. Brown said that Night Train Lane and Yale Lary were the two toughest defensive back he played against. Great in the open field tackling. Then he said how fast Night Train was, and one time Brown outraced Night Train into the end zone. Finds out that a couple of weeks before, Lane had his appendix taken out.

Titans to hire Mike Mularkey, Teryl Austin fails to land head coach job.
PrideOfDetroit

This offseason, Austin was a candidate for the Browns, Dolphins, Eagles, Giants and Titans jobs. With all five job openings now filled, Austin will likely remain the Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator, as long as Bob Quinn doesn't have any different plans for the Lions' coaching staff.

NFL Coach Fire and Hire Grades.

Lions hire GM Bob Quinn, retain HC Jim Caldwell: B+ Grade

I was waiting on the Bob Quinn grade because I wanted to see what he would do with Jim Caldwell. It turns out that Quinn has decided to keep Caldwell as his head coach.

I like that move a lot. Caldwell did a great job of rallying the team in the second half of the season, and they played hard for him in each game, save for the post-Hail Mary trip to St. Louis. Caldwell, along with new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, had something great going to close out the year, as the team was determined to build momentum going into 2016. Firing Caldwell and nullifying all of that would have been a big mistake.

As for Quinn, he's the former director of pro scouting for New England, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he'll be successful. We've seen plenty of people leave the Patriots and fail. It can be pretty easy to look smart when working with Bill Belichick, after all. However, Quinn is off to a good start, so Detroit fans should be optimistic, for now.

I usually get into the draft stuff a lot (as a long time Lions fan go figure right). I'll post what I find interesting.
