Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions have a ‘substantial gap’ in negotiations.
Is this the first snag in contract negotiations?

Don’t panic: Matthew Stafford’s agent has a history of last-minute deals.
Using history to predict when Matthew Stafford will sign his contract extension.

Some highlights from the second day of Lions training camp:
BEST PLAY: There wasn't a specific play that stood out Tuesday -- the first day in pads -- but in offensive vs. defensive line one-on-one drills, defensive ends Anthony Zettel, Brandon Copeland and Kerry Hyder stood out.
All three had strong reps against the offensive line and showed speed to get around the edge. It's only one day, but those guys could be depth players -- and in Hyder's case, a possible starter -- to watch.

Rookie report: The guy who stood out a little bit is UDFA center Leo Koloamatangi out of Hawaii. He has primarily taken No. 2 reps behind Travis Swanson and looked physical his first day in pads. Lions coach Jim Caldwell appeared impressed with his size (6-foot-5, 310 pounds). He'll be a player to pay attention to as a depth lineman in camp.

Today's injury update: Eric Ebron, Tavon Wilson, T.J. Lang and Cornelius Washington were the key players out of practice. Don Carey and Theo Riddick wore red no-contact jerseys.

Overheard: After one individual receiver drill, Golden Tate walked over to fans, high-fived them and then squirted water from a bottle at a couple.
The fans laughed and screamed, enjoying their moment with Tate.

Matthew Stafford invited several receivers to his home this offseason. Matthew Stafford worked hard to improve this offseason.
Matthew Stafford kept himself busy this offseason. Not only did he see a quarterback guru in California, but he wanted to get more familiar with his fellow receivers. Stafford invited rookie tight end Michael Roberts to his Atlanta home, along with Jace Billingsley and Eric Ebron, to help work on routes and develop relationships with his receivers.

A trip to Matthew Stafford's home helped integrate Michael Roberts to Lions.
