Jim Caldwell said Dwayne Washington will be the kick returner and Golden Tate and Jamal Agnew will return punts for the Lions. Tate is a surprise.

Jim Caldwell, still without a contract extension, said he's not worried about it and doesn't think about it. He's in the final year of his initial contract and has made two playoff appearances in three seasons.

Haloti Ngata and T.J. Lang not working in open portion of practice for Lions. Not too much to be concerned with, at this point. Would likely just be rest days for both.

Eric Ebron said there's no reason he can't make a Pro Bowl if he plays all 16 games. His role and red zone production should alter with Anquan Boldin gone.

Lions' Nevin Lawson and Jake Rudock tell me their families are staying in Florida during Hurricane Irma, riding out the storm. Rudock asked his parents if they wanted to come up to Michigan but they chose to stay down there. Lawson said his father is helping his other family members prepare for the hurricane. Both said their families have taken care of getting necessary provisions before the storm.

The Lions have waived Dez Stewart from injured reserve.
