Detroit Lions Breakdown Podcast Episode #34: Week 8 Preview vs. Steelers. 46 minutes.

The Lions didn?t bask in a win or bemoan a defeat this week, but there was plenty of action in Allen Park. This week the Lions host Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football and Erik and Joe break down the game?

The injury report still includes the names Lang and Quin, but both look like they will play, news is murkier on Tate and Golladay.

Transactions ? Matt Prater will be sticking around for another 3 years and will bank around $12 million in the process.

Thornton, Billingsley and Skipper now on the 53 man.

Kaaya and Norton to the practice squad.

Jeff Locke released, he was a fine fill in for Sam Martin.

The Lions fall in most of the power rankings, even though they didn?t take the field.

A short trip to the mailbox wraps up the show.

Kenny Golladay (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 8.
This was expected after a setback cost Golladay the last two days of practice. It's a missed opportunity with Golden Tate (shoulder) at less than 100 percent. Golladay should be considered week to week.

Golden Tate (shoulder) is questionable for Week 8 against the Steelers.
Tate made a quick recovery from his shoulder injury, getting in a limited week of practice following the Lions' Week 7 bye. All signs point to him suiting up against Pittsburgh, though he does carry some risk with the Lions kicking off at 8:30 ET. If he gets the green light, Tate will extend his consecutive games played streak to 86.
Daily Slant: If he plays, he'll battle Mike Hilton, who's holding receivers to 0.67 yards per cover snap when lined up inside, the fourth-best rate (per PFF).
It won't be much easier for Golladay's replacement, T.J. Jones; he'll see Artie Burns the most (12th with 0.74 yards/cover snap, 51% catch rate).
Marvin Jones will get after Joe Haden on roughly half his routes. Since Week 2, Haden is fifth with 0.38 yards/cover snap and third in cover snaps/reception (28.9).
As a unit, the Steelers are second in pass DVOA (per FO) and have allowed the fewest PPR points to WRs.

EVERYTHING GOING AGAINST THE LIONS?
Ben Roethlisberger has won five straight prime-time games with 15 TDs and one INT in those contests, while Matthew Stafford has the worst win percentage (.267) in prime-time of any QB since 2009 (min. 10 starts).
The Steelers have beaten the Lions in five straight and eight of nine, with the only loss coming after the infamous botched coin toss on Thanksgiving in 1998. (ESPN Stats & Info)
