Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Jim Caldwell said the expectations when he came here was to win it all. He hasn't done that so far and called anything short of it is "unacceptable."

Asked Jim Bob Cooter about why the run game just never came together for the Lions this year. He said they did some things well, didn't do other things as well. Wouldn't get into specifics. The Lions enter Week 17 last in the NFL in rushing yards per game (78 yards per game) and No. 31 in yards per carry (3.44 ypc). The Lions have also not had a 100-yard rusher in 67 games -- the entirety of Jim Caldwell's tenure with Detroit to date along with some games from the end of Jim Schwartz's time with the Lions.

Lions DC Teryl Austin said he isn't thinking about potential job opportunities (head coaching interviews) yet but if he gets a chance to interview he'll do what he did the past few years, "crammed and studied for it, like a test."

Lions DC Teryl Austin said he believes Dwight Freeney is a Hall of Famer. He's coached him the last few weeks of this season and also was part of the Syracuse coaching staff for a year when Freeney with with the Orange (then, the Orangemen).

Teryl Austin said he thinks the biggest thing with Ezekiel Ansah is "health." Said he's played well through injuries. He said "he's not as dominant as he was," but that it is because of the injuries. Said he's a really, really good player. Austin said he "hopes" Ansah can get back to the level of his old dominant self.

Nevin Lawson and Travis Swanson not spotted at open portion of Lions practice Thursday.
Travis Swanson downgraded to no practice today recovering from a concussion.
