Detroit Tigers Minor League Notes

2012 Baseball Draft: Second Round Update.
91) Jake Thompson, RHP, Detroit Tigers: 1.91 ERA with 31/10 K/BB in 28 innings in the GCL, 14 hits, 1.78 GO/AO. Very good so far.

2012 Baseball Draft Update: Third Round Picks.
121) Austin Schotts, OF, Detroit Tigers: Very nice numbers in the GCL, .338/.387/.489 with 12 steals. Spotty plate discipline and needs work on center field defense.

2012 Baseball Draft Review: Fourth Round Updates.
154) Drew VerHagen, RHP, Detroit Tigers: 2.51 ERA with 18/13 K/BB, 20 hits allowed in 29 innings between GCL Tigers and Lakeland in the High-A Florida State League, 3.33 GO/AO. Vanderbilt product could move quickly if he can improve his command and keep the grounders, but lack of Ks is notable.

2012 Baseball Draft: Update on Fifth Round.
184) Joe Rogers, LHP, Detroit Tigers: 2.75 ERA with 23/10 K/BB in 20 innings for Connecticut in the NY-P, 19 hits, 2.27 GO/AO. Good sinker, good curve.

2012 Baseball Draft: Sixth Round Update.
214) Jordan John, LHP, Detroit Tigers: Just three innings in rookie ball so far, has allowed one hit and no walks, fanning five. Advanced college pitcher signed for a little below slot, and could end up being a bargain given feel for pitching.

2012 Baseball Draft: Seventh Round Update.
244) Hudson Randall, RHP, Detroit Tigers: Easy peasy with the workload after some arm problems during college season, 3.00 ERA with 8/3 K/BB in 12 innings in GCL. Slot bonus.

2012 Baseball Draft Update: Eighth Round.
274) Jeff McVaney, OF-LHP, Detroit Tigers: Below slot college senior, throws hard from the left side, athletic enough to play outfield as a pro and that's what he's doing, .267/.337/.405 with 17 walks, 43 strikeouts in 247 at-bats between NY-P and Midwest League. Holding his own, has some plate discipline issues.

2012 Baseball Draft: Ninth Round Update.
304) Jake Stewart, OF, Detroit Tigers: Slot bonus college outfielder, good tools, didn't live up to expectations at Stanford, and he's also not hitting in the NY-P: .212/.263/.320 with 17 walks, 57 strikeouts in 231 at-bats for Connecticut.

2012 Baseball Draft: Tenth Round Update.
334) Charlie Gillies, RHP, Detroit Tigers: Another below slot college senior, 3.40 ERA with 42/17 K/BB in 42 innings for Connecticut in the NY-P, 31 hits. Spectacular 4.73 GO/AO supports scouting reports of an excellent sinker.

2012 Baseball Draft: 11th Round Update.
364) Bennett Pickar, C, Detroit Tigers: Slot bonus college catcher with good arm. .212/.294/.272 with 18 walks, 45 strikeouts in 151 at-bats for Connecticut in the NY-P, threw out just 25% and gave up 16 passed balls and seven errors in 50 games. Disappointing.

2012 Baseball Draft: 12th Round Review.
394) Julio Felix, RHP, Detroit Tigers: Slot bonus junior college pitcher, short (5-10) but throws hard, 4.11 ERA with 29/8 K/BB in 35 innings for GCL Tigers, 29 hits, 2.04 GO/AO. Age 20.

2012 Baseball Draft: 13th Round Performance Review.
424) Devon Travis, 2B, Detroit Tigers: Double-slot bonus ($200,000) for Florida State infielder. Hit .280/.352/.441 with eight walks, 10 strikeouts in 93 at-bats for Connecticut in the New York-Penn League, solid defense as well. Age 21.

NYPL Connecticut Tigers.
Mark Anderson: HR for Danry Vasquez, turned on an 80 mph CH that was left up, hit it very well to RF. There's power in his future.

2012 Sleeper Baseball Prospects: End of Season Review, Part Three.

Kyle Ryan, LHP, Tigers: 21-year-old control artist, 3.74 ERA with 105/29 K/BB in 159 innings for Low-A West Michigan, 176 hits. Doesn't dominate, but doesn't walk anyone.

Eugenio Suarez, SS, Tigers: Hit .288/.380/.409 with 34 doubles, 21-for-30 in steals, 65 walks, 116 strikeouts in 511 at-bats for Low-A West Michigan at age 20. Solid defender at shortstop. Main issue is high strikeout rate, but I like him.
