Detroit Tigers Minor League Notes

Have confirmed that the BaseballAmerica report of Tigers DJ Driggers being suspended 50 games for PEDs is correct.
MLB came out with a release on it. Also said David Pauley suspended 50 games for drug of abuse.

2012 Baseball Draft: Second Round Update.
91) Jake Thompson, RHP, Detroit Tigers: 1.91 ERA with 31/10 K/BB in 28 innings in the GCL, 14 hits, 1.78 GO/AO. Very good so far.

2012 Baseball Draft Update: Third Round Picks.
121) Austin Schotts, OF, Detroit Tigers: Very nice numbers in the GCL, .338/.387/.489 with 12 steals. Spotty plate discipline and needs work on center field defense.

2012 Baseball Draft Review: Fourth Round Updates.
154) Drew VerHagen, RHP, Detroit Tigers: 2.51 ERA with 18/13 K/BB, 20 hits allowed in 29 innings between GCL Tigers and Lakeland in the High-A Florida State League, 3.33 GO/AO. Vanderbilt product could move quickly if he can improve his command and keep the grounders, but lack of Ks is notable.

2012 Baseball Draft: Update on Fifth Round.
184) Joe Rogers, LHP, Detroit Tigers: 2.75 ERA with 23/10 K/BB in 20 innings for Connecticut in the NY-P, 19 hits, 2.27 GO/AO. Good sinker, good curve.

2012 Baseball Draft: Sixth Round Update.
214) Jordan John, LHP, Detroit Tigers: Just three innings in rookie ball so far, has allowed one hit and no walks, fanning five. Advanced college pitcher signed for a little below slot, and could end up being a bargain given feel for pitching.

2012 Baseball Draft: Seventh Round Update.
244) Hudson Randall, RHP, Detroit Tigers: Easy peasy with the workload after some arm problems during college season, 3.00 ERA with 8/3 K/BB in 12 innings in GCL. Slot bonus.

2012 Baseball Draft Update: Eighth Round.
274) Jeff McVaney, OF-LHP, Detroit Tigers: Below slot college senior, throws hard from the left side, athletic enough to play outfield as a pro and that's what he's doing, .267/.337/.405 with 17 walks, 43 strikeouts in 247 at-bats between NY-P and Midwest League. Holding his own, has some plate discipline issues.

Nick Castellanos, six other Tigers to play in Arizona Fall League.

Player comments from TigsTowns' Mark Anderson;
Castellanos -- Needs all the OF work he can get, could put up monster offensive numbers in that environment, good experience.
Westlake -- Get the decision but not all that interested, power numbers could be huge, still a long way from being a real prospect.
McCann -- Could be spring board to 2013 debut as a backup catcher, defense is fine, offensive approach/swing needs a lot of work.
Hoffman -- Low-slot reliever with solid-average velo, needs to gain consistency, needs situational experience.
Clark -- Rewarding a fine season, C&C guy w/ fringy relief stuff, good test in difficult environment, don't read too much into his numbers.
Morrison -- Has FB to pitch in MLB, needs work on secondary pitches and against advanced competition, good trial for him.
Putkonen -- Excellent velo, needs consistency, needs to trust stuff and let it fly, needs the work in AFL, still has MLB potential.
