Detroit Tigers Minor League Notes

Tyler Clark has been promoted from High-A Lakeland to AA Erie. Absolutely dominating this season.

CF Austin Schotts is back. 2-5, 2B, 2RBI today in the GCL. 1st game back since dislocating a finger a few weeks ago.

Chris Bootcheck got injured in last night's game; likely also related to Bruce Rondon promotion.
Dave Dombrowski just confirmed Chris Bootcheck is headed to the DL. Part of the reason for the Bruce Rondon move.

Tigers announced Monday that right-hander Bruce Rondon, one of their top prospects, was being transferred from Double-A Erie to Triple-A Toledo.
Rondon appeared in 21 games with the Seawolves and pitched 21.2 innings. He gave up 15 hits and two earned runs, with 23 strikeouts and nine walks. His ERA was 0.83 and his WHIP was 1.11.

Tigers bump fireballer Rondon up to Triple-A.
Tigers relief prospect Bruce Rondon and his triple-digit fastball allowed just two earned runs on 15 hits over 21 2/3 innings for Double-A Erie, overmatching most of the Eastern League. The Tigers have decided to give the right-hander a new challenge by stepping him up a level with a month to go in the Minor League season.
Detroit made the move official on Monday, promoting Rondon from Erie to Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers have said nothing about whether Rondon -- the club's No. 4 prospect, according to MLB.com -- could end up being a September callup once rosters expand, but Monday's move will probably fuel speculation.
Rondon, 21 and listed at 270 pounds, has regularly topped 100 mph on radar guns. He hit 102 mph on the Kauffman Stadium radar gun at last month's XM All-Star Futures Game. That kind of fastball, no doubt, can make an impact in the big leagues. The question is whether that impact will come this year.
"I'm just going to keep working hard, and we will see what happens in the future," Rondon told reporters at the Futures Game. "We don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. All I can do is control how hard I work."
The move was a bit of a surprise. If Rondon was going to be moved at all, the expected destination was the big leagues, given the belief that there was little he could learn at Triple-A. Mud Hens closer Chris Bootcheck's injury on Sunday night might have changed the organization's thought process.
"In our evaluation, Rondon was ready to be moved to Toledo," Tigers vice president/assistant general manager Al Avila wrote in an email on Monday.

Kaline-Castellanos: Al Kaline will head to Double-A Erie today to work with top prospect Nick Castellanos on playing rightfield. Club officials recently moved Castellanos from third base to the outfield so he'd have a way to break into the Tigers' lineup. His way at third is obstructed by Miguel Cabrera.

Tyler Collins OF, Detroit Tigers: With a thin system in terms of impact prospects, Detroit can use all the help it can get and Collins has been a revelation. After a solid debut in 2011, he?s built upon that success with a nice campaign in high-A ball that?s seen him post a 136 wRC+ while hitting just under .300. He doesn?t have a huge ceiling but Collins, 22, could develop into a solid No. 4 or platoon outfielder.

@KalineCountry: Any news yet on Al Kaline helping Castellanos learn RF technique?

TigsTownMark: No news...don't expect much to come of it.
