Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

Hunter finding a warm home in Detroit.
The Twin Cities are always going to hold a special place in Torii Hunter's heart. The Motor City is starting to form a place there.
When Hunter stepped to the plate with the tying run on third base during Saturday's ninth-inning comeback over the White Sox, with a sellout crowd at Comerica Park chanting his name, he admits that it got to him.

He knew that Detroit had a contending team and a good fan base, but he admits that the way Tigers fans and teammates have received him has touched him.
"This is probably one of my favorite years," Hunter said after Sunday's home finale. "I think I haven't had this much fun in 10 years, in this clubhouse. I've always played well at Comerica Park, but just the love you feel playing here, it's unbelievable. I never knew that, and I got a whiff of it this year."

Hunter is under contract with Detroit for next season, during which he'll celebrate his 39th birthday. His 2013 campaign has been a series of hot stretches and slumps, but his home splits are hard to pick apart. He hit .333 at Comerica Park this year with 20 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 46 RBIs and an .861 OPS.

No American League hitter has more base hits in his home park this year. Only Hunter's teammate, Miguel Cabrera, posted a better average at home among qualifying AL hitters.

Just three other Tigers have posted 100 hits at Comerica Park in a season since it opened in 2000. Cabrera did it in 2009 and 2011; Magglio Ordonez and Placido Polanco had 110 and 105 hits there, respectively, in 2007.

Positive signs for Rondon,
Bruce Rondon gave a thumbs up when asked on Monday how his arm feels, and that seemed to be a good sign for his potential return to work in the bullpen on Tuesday.
At the very least, it confirmed that Rondon's arm felt fine after his mound session on Sunday morning. So as long as he feels no lingering effects, his return should be a matter of when, not if.
That, in turn, would give the Tigers a big piece in their bullpen. The hard-throwing rookie had become a valuable presence in the seventh and eighth innings before coming down with tenderness in his right elbow following a Sept. 2 outing in Boston in which he hit 102 mph.

and...
Fellow reliever Phil Coke, sidelined since Thursday with soreness in his forearm flexor, sounded optimistic about his progress after throwing off the bullpen mound at Target Field on Monday afternoon.
"It felt a little tight, but it went well," Coke said.

Verlander now has 5 straight years w/ 200 K's.
Only Tiger with more was Mickey Lolich w/ 6 straight, 1969-74.

Shortstop Jose Iglesias fielded ground balls in batting practice on Monday for the first time since sustaining a bruise on his left hand being hit by a pitch last Thursday, and he seemed to do so comfortably. He has not taken batting practice yet, and won't until he can hold a bat without discomfort.

September 24 in Tigers and mlb history:

1921 - Harry Heilmann is 3 for 4 against Walter Johnson, but Washington wins the game over Detroit, 5 - 1. Ty Cobb is so incensed by the umpiring of Billy Evans that he challenges him to a fight. The two future Hall of Famers go at it with Cobb getting the best of Evans. George Hildebrand, the second umpire assigned to the game, reports the incident to American League president Ban Johnson. When Johnson fails to act, Commissioner Landis steps in and suspends Cobb, but allows him to continue as a non-playing manager.

1923: Detroit pitcher Ray Francis, with a 3 - 0 lead over the Yankees, issues a bases-loaded walk to Babe Ruth, but hangs on for the victory.

1928 - The Tigers draw 404 fans for their last meeting with the Red Sox, winning 8 - 0 behind Sam Gibson's 5-hitter. Pat Simmons is knocked out in the 7th when he gives up consecutive triples to Al Wingo, batting 9th, John Stone, and Charlie Gehringer. Harry Heilmann has a home run and double for Detroit.

1933: Detroit's Tommy Bridges reaches the 9th inning with a no-hitter for the third time this season and the fourth time in two years. He yields a pair of hits, as Detroit beats the Browns 7 - 0. Despite the win, Bucky Harris resigns as manager of the Tigers.

1950: Mental lapses crush Tiger hopes. Due to heavy smoke from a Canadian forest fire, Detroit puts on the lights in a Sunday afternoon contest with the Indians. Cleveland's only score in nine innings is pitcher Bob Lemon's home run in the 4th, as the match is tied 1 - 1 on Johnny Lipon's homer. Lemon opens the 10th with a triple, and two intentional walks follow. With the bases loaded and one out, C Aaron Robinson thinks he has a shot at a double play by just stepping on home. Because of the haze, he does not see 1B Don Kolloway remove the force after fielding the ball hit by slugger Luke Easter, and the Indians win 2 - 1.

1967 - The Twins crunch the Yankees, 9 - 2, as Dean Chance scatters nine hits for his 20th victory. The White Sox hold off the Indians, 5 - 1, while Boston racks up 18 hits in an 11 - 7 win over the Orioles. The Tigers lose a tough one. Going into the bottom of the 9th in Washington, Detroit nurses a 4 - 2 lead, only to lose it, 5 - 4. The loss drops Detroit to 4th, 1 1/2 games behind Minnesota, Chicago a game back, and Boston a half game.

1974: At Memorial Stadium with his parents, family, and friends in the stands, Tiger rightfielder Al Kaline gets his 3000th hit. The milestone hit is a double off Oriole hurler Dave McNally in a 5 - 4 loss to the Birds.

1982 - In the completion of a game suspended on July 9th, the Tigers beat Cleveland, 4 - 3, when reliever Ed Glynn uncorks a wild pitch with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 18th inning.

2009 - Justin Verlander strikes out 11 in 7 innings as Detroit bests Cleveland, 6 - 5. It is the Indians' 11th straight loss, one short of the franchise record set in 1931.

2011: The 200,000th game in major league history (since 1876) is played today, although the total excludes certain leagues usually considered of major league caliber such as the Federal League. Officially, today's game between the Rockies and Astros at Minute Maid Park sets the historic milestone when it becomes official at 8:45 ET. The Rockies win, 4 - 2, in 13 innings.

Jhonny Peralta's outfield preparation cut short after Detroit Tigers' Instructional League game is canceled.
from Mlive

"I assume, I don't know if this is a fact, but I'll assume that he'll probably join us in Miami," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said last week.

Leyland was not willing to say last week whether Peralta will be activated and added to a potential postseason roster.

"I mean, we know he can catch a fly ball," he said. "But getting it off the bat with the ball sinking or sailing, or carrying over your head, you never know how that’s going to work."
