Detroit Tigers Team Notes

November 6 in Tigers and mlb history :

1969 - Denny McLain of the Detroit Tigers and Mike Cuellar of the Baltimore Orioles finish dead even in American League Cy Young Award voting. McLain posted a record 24-9 record with 181 strikeouts and a 2.80 ERA.

2001: Denying it is a negotiating ploy, Commissioner Bud Selig is given the authority to "begin the process" of eliminating two 'to be announced' teams by the MLB owners by a 28-2 vote. Donald Fehr, the Players Association executive director, calls the action of possibly eliminating the Twins, Expos, Marlins or Devil Rays most imprudent and unfortunate and the worst manner in which to begin the process of negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement.

Detroit Tigers Team Notes

from mlbtraderumors;
This morning we learned that the Mets will listen on offers for David Wright. With a $15MM salary next year and a $16MM option for 2013, Olney writes that the club's best chance to get value in return for him is to deal him now. Wright will turn 30 next year and while he has been a good solider, he could eventually ask to be sent to a contending team. Instead, the Mets can deal him now and get players to help them win in 2014 or 2015.
There is sentiment within the Mets' organization that the timing isn't right to build around Jose Reyes, Buster Olney of ESPN.com. There are concerns that he's not a fit between his leg injuries and their own timetable for contending.

Major League Baseball is ready to declare Yoenis Cespedes a free agent but is awaiting the go-ahead from the Office of Foreign Assets Control, which clears Cubans to play baseball in the United States, a source told Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. The Yankees are particularly interested in the right-handed center fielder, according to one source who attended an open workout Friday in the Dominican Republic. Sources say Cespedes could command $30MM or more this winter.
