Bud Selig, the same commissioner who canceled the World Series in 1994 in order to crush the union, deserves props for seeing the error of his ways and dramatically changing them, writes Ken Davidoff of Newsday. However, Davidoff isn't a fan of the limits on amateur spending and doesn't see the point of HGH testing.
On the other hand, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald argues that the newly-implemented HGH testing is a striking example of how far the sport has come in recognizing its issues with performance-enhancing drugs.

The Tigers have inquired about free agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com.
The Cubs offered arbitration to Ramirez, but he's expected to decline and move elsewhere on a multi-year contract. Chicago can score a draft pick when he reaches a contract agreement with another team. The 33-year-old is the top third baseman on the market this winter and is thought to be seeking a four-year deal. He batted .306/.361/.510 with 26 homers, 93 RBI and an .871 OPS this season.

The Lineup Card : 10 Pitcher MVPs and Their Worthiness.
from Baseball Prospectus

In the Cy Young era, just ten pitchers have won the MVP award, including Justin Verlander in 2011. Today's Lineup Card will focus on either 1) one of these pitchers and the position-player alternative who would have had the most compelling case to win the award instead, or 2) a pitcher who didn't win the MVP award but should have.
