Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

The time has come for the Tigers to enter the sellers? market, writes Jon Morosi of FOX Sports. Names like David Price, Yoenis Cespedes and Rajai Davis, among others, should be marketed over the coming 10 days in an attempt to avoid a lengthy rebuild in the Motor City. However, Morosi notes that there?s more to the likely trades of veteran players than just a one-year selling cycle. Rather, he writes this could very well represent the beginning of a new philosophy for the Tigers.
Sources tell Morosi that Christopher Ilitch (son of owner Mike Ilitch) has taken a greater influence over the Tigers? business operations than his father, whose focus has shifted to the construction of a new arena for the Detroit Red Wings.
As such, the Tigers? aggressively escalating payroll may take a step back in the coming years. However, the team can avoid a lengthy rebuild by acquiring strong packages for stars Price and Cespedes.
Specifically, he wonders if the Dodgers would part with a combination of Grant Holmes, Jose De Leon and Cody Bellinger for Price, while speculating that names such as Brett Phillips and Vincent Velasquez could be in play if Houston makes a run at Cespedes.

The Tigers have a brief window to change the front office?s mind on becoming a seller, writes MLive.com?s Chris Iott. Each of their next nine games will come against teams with negative run differentials, he points out. However, Iott also notes that if GM Dave Dombrowski is to extract maximum value for Price and/or Cespedes, he?ll need to begin laying groundwork for trades sooner than the final two days of the non-waiver trading period. The implication there, seemingly, is that it?s possible Dombrowski has already begun to do so, or will begin shortly, and could receive an offer he must take before Detroit has a chance to turn the tide.

Future of Detroit Tigers Uncertain.

Mike Ilitch may not be taking the interest anymore in the team that he used to, and his kids don?t look like they?d be willing to make the financial sacrifices to win that their father has.

Chances are, they?ll be making personnel decisions in order to maximize the value of the franchise for sale. Mike Ilitch is too old to be interested in another strip-down and rebuild and no one thinks his family even likes baseball. We could be in for a painful winter as the front office tries to move contracts or shuffle them to create more optimism for the team.

July 22 in Tigers and mlb history:

1909: For the first of four times in his career, Ty Cobb steals second base, third, and home in an inning, doing it in the 7th against Red Sox pitcher Harry Wolter. It is also Ty's first swipe of home in his career, Ty will steal home a total of 54 times. The Tigers beat Boston 6 - 0.

1923 - Walter Johnson notches his 3,000th strikeout on the way to 3,508. He fans five in beating Cleveland, 3 - 1. The next pitcher to reach 3000 Ks will be Bob Gibson, in 1974.

1941 - Dick Wakefield becomes baseball's first "bonus baby" when he signs with the Tigers for $52,000 and a new car. The University of Michigan standout will hit .143 in seven at-bat this season but will eventually turn into a solid outfielder batting .293 over parts of 9 seasons.

1952 - Detroit's Virgil Trucks gives up one hit in beating Washington 1 - 0.

1956 - The Hall of Fame announces special rules governing elections. Writers should vote every two years, alternating with the Veterans Committee; because of criticism, this will revert back in 1962. To be eligible, players must have been retired for five years.

1969 - For the first time, the All-Star Game is postponed due to rain.

1993: Kansas City's Greg Gagne hits a home run off Detroit's Mark Leiter in the Royals' 12 - 6 victory. The home run is the 10,000th hit in the long history of Tiger Stadium, making it the first ballpark to reach that figure. During the game, Detroit 3B Travis Fryman draws a walk off KC P Enrique Burgos, then proceeds to circle the bases on three wild pitches by Burgos.

2012: The Tigers complete a three-game sweep of the White Sox with a 6 - 4 win at Comerica Park. They score all of their runs on four homers off Philip Humber in the first 3 innings; two of the homers are by Miguel Cabrera, including the 300th of his career on a huge blast to center field in the 3rd inning. Jacob Turner is the winner, earning his first major league victory. The Tigers have won 16 of their last 21 to move 1 1/2 games ahead of the Sox in the AL Central.
