Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

Detroit Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann threw 91 pitches in minor-league game today: In 6 innings pitched, he gave up nine hits, four runs, two earned runs, one walk, five strikeouts and one wild pitch. He is expected to get one more outing before his Tigers debut.

Pelfrey has an impressive pitching line this spring. But his stuff looks the same as what we saw from the guy who has posted a 1.48 career WHIP. Jim Bowden expects him to see 30 starts and an ERA in the mid-4s yet again.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus pleased with pitching performances from Buck Farmer, Kyle Ryan and Logan Kensing tonight vs. Yankees. Journeyman Kensing might be one of the most surprising names to still be with club heading into last week, but Tigers have liked what they have seen. He already came highly recommended from Lloyd McClendon, who had him in Seattle. Ausmus: "He's a strike-thrower."

One last thing on reliever Bobby Parnell, who was given an unconditional release by the Tigers today in what was a surprising move: manager Brad Ausmus did not rule out a potential return for the former Mets closer. Same goes for veteran infielder Casey McGehee, who was also released. Remains unclear why the club would not have just paid both players the $100k retention bonus and kept them within the organization.

March 29 in Tigers and mlb history:

1867 - Denton True "Cy" Young is born in Gilmore, a tiny village near Newcomerstown, Ohio. Young will earn his nickname for his cyclone-like pitching motion and he will win (and lose) more games than any pitcher in major league history with a 511-316 record and a 2.63 ERA over 22 seasons. Young will win 20 or more games 15 times, and top the 30-win mark five times. He will be elected to the Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of America in 1937, with 153 votes on 201 ballots.

1973 ? The "Alert Orange Baseball" is used for the first time in major league history. The unique baseball, an invention of Oakland Athletics owner Charlie Finley, is used in an exhibition game between Oakland and the Cleveland Indians. Finley contends the ball, painted the color of a construction worker's hat, will be easier for both players and fans to see. But pitchers complain that the ball is slippery and hard to grip, while batters are unable to pick up the spin of the ball without seeing the seams. Although Finley pushes for the use of colored baseballs during the regular season, the idea will never come to fruition.

1988: Detroit returns John Wetteland to the Dodgers.

2011: Major League Baseball creates a new 7-day disabled list for players who have suffered concussions, following a number of serious incidents last season, and controversy about concussions in professional football and hockey. Players will need to be evaluated by a medical specialist before they are allowed to return to action.

2013 - With Opening Day just around the corner, teams ink star players to long-term deals. In Detroit, P Justin Verlander agrees to a $120 million extension for 5 years, with an option for a sixth at $22 million.

Injured Tigers reliever Blaine Hardy will throw for second straight day. Light bullpen session today. Hardy said his arm feels good but does not sound optimistic about avoiding Opening Day disabled list; "I think It'd be pushing it, but you never know. " Hardy sounds like he would like to err on the side of caution rather than push it and lose a significant chunk of 2016 season as a result.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus sounding pretty confident on Victor Martinez' Opening Day availability: "At this point, I would be shocked if he wasn't ready to go." Martinez, who suffered a hamstring injury March 14, returns to the lineup today as a designated hitter. Has taken at-bats in minor-league games the past two days.

The Marlins have released outfielder Justin Maxwell and infielder Don Kelly, as MLB.com?s Joe Frisaro reports (Twitter links). Both were in camp on minor league deals.

Kelly, meanwhile, was an Article XX(B) free agent and thus would?ve been due a $100K roster bonus had he been kept in the minors. Now 36, Kelly took just one major league plate appearance last year, though he did make a big league showing for the seventh consecutive season. The glove-first infielder also only managed to suit up for a dozen minor league games with the Miami organization in 2015.
