Sweep of White Sox shows things starting to congeal for Tigers.

Before the game, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus admitted he was concerned about using Cameron Maybin in front of Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez in the lineup considering it may hinder his ability to steal bases. Last inning was a good example of how his speed can still be an asset in that position, batting second. After working a two-out walk, Maybin was able to score from first on Miguel Cabrera's RBI double.
Tigers chase White Sox starter Jose Quintana with a critical sequence in the bottom of the fifth. After falling behind 0-2, J.D. Martinez works a bases-loaded walk to snap 1-1 tie. Nick Castellanos follows up with an RBI single and Justin Upton adds a pair of his own with a sharp line drive double to left. Tigers lead 5-1.
Another outstanding performance for Tigers ace Justin Verlander, who finished the day with just two runs given up on five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts over seven innings. 33-year-old pitcher has been superb over the span of his last six starts.
Tigers complete sweep of the White Sox. Among the highlights: a gem from Justin Verlander, balanced production from the offense, another solid outing for Shane Greene in relief and closer Francisco Rodriguez' 17th consecutive save. 5-2 final and Tigers back to the .500 mark (28-28).
Tigers CF Cameron Maybin will be sticking in the two-hole tomorrow, and for good reason. Might not be the ideal candidate, but has proven a good fit there the past three games. "He's getting on base, he has some speed, he can distract the pitcher, he can score on a double from first, he can steal a base," manager Brad Ausmus said. "He's not really the prototypical run producer. That doesn't mean he can't drive in runs?.but, the bottom line is if he keeps getting on base, if he keeps having good at-bats in front of Miggy and Victor, and then J.D. behind that, there's probably no reason to move him."
