Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

Major League Baseball’s owners and players might not agree to a new collective bargaining agreement before the Dec. 1 expiration of the current CBA, but a lockout isn’t guaranteed if they don’t, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. Instead, business could continue under the soon-to-be old CBA as the two sides keep negotiating toward a new deal, even if doing so takes them through spring training.

Although there are some appealing designated hitter types on the free agent market, teams are showing interest in Tigers DH Victor Martinez, according to Cafardo. Given that the Tigers are aiming to get younger and cut payroll, trading Martinez would seem to make sense, as he?ll turn 38 in December and is owed $36MM over the next two years. However, in addition to his lofty salary, Martinez?s 10-and-5 rights could put the kibosh on a potential deal. The switch-hitter recovered from a miserable 2015 to slash .289/.351/.476 with 27 home runs in 610 plate appearances this past season.

Detroit Tigers Rumor: Teams are Looking at Victor Martinez.

November 27 in Tigers and mlb history:

1910 - The touring Detroit Tigers, with Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford in the lineup, play an exhibition game in Havana, Cuba. With George Mullin pitching, the Tigers beat Almendares, 4 - 0.

1981 - The Detroit Tigers trade OF Steve Kemp to the Chicago White Sox for OF Chet Lemon.

1984 - The American League Gold Glove team is announced, and it is made up of the same nine players as the 1983 team: catcher Lance Parrish, first baseman Eddie Murray, second baseman Lou Whitaker, third baseman Buddy Bell, shortstop Alan Trammell, outfielders Dwight Evans, Dave Winfield and Dwayne Murphy, and pitcher Ron Guidry.

2012: Marvin Miller, who served as head of the Major League Baseball Players Association from 1966 to 1983, dies at 95. A veteran union organizer from the steel industry, Miller made the union highly powerful, leading to the first collective bargaining agreement in professional sports in 1968 and other breakthroughs such as salary arbitration and free agency in the 1970s. These advances required a number of strikes, which made Miller a vilified figure among owners. Lingering bitterness explains while Miller failed to secure election to the Hall of Fame by a small margin in recent years.

One of college football?s biggest rivalry games took place yesterday, in Columbus.
The Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes met for the 113th time, with the home team winning 30-27 in double overtime. Michigan now leads the all-time series 58-49, with six games ending in ties.

Who would come out ahead if the Big Ten schools faced off in a fictional baseball battle that featured the best of their alums? Here are the presumed starters at each position, along with their career WAR totals (The teams were put together using Baseball-Reference?s Colleges and Universities search tool, so for the sake of expediency, we?re going with bWAR.)

Michigan Wolverines

C ? Bill Freehan ? 44.7
1B ? John Mayberry ? 24.7
2B ? Charlie Gehringer ? 80.6
SS ? Barry Larkin ? 70.2
3B ? Chris Sabo ? 16.4
OF ? George Sisler ? 54.5
OF ? Elliott Maddox ? 14.9
OF ? Hal Morris ? 13.3
DH ? Ted Simmons ? 50.1
SP ? Geoff Zahn ? 20.7
SP ? Jim Abbott ? 19.8
RP ? Steve Howe ? 10.5

Ohio State Buckeyes

C ? Johnny Edwards ? 14.8
1B ? Don Hurst ? 12.4
2B ? Pinky Pittenger ? -1.6
SS ? Rick Renick ? 0.6
3B ? Barry Bonnell ? 1.7
OF ? Frank Howard ? 37.6
OF ? Nick Swisher ? 21.7
OF ? Larry Hisle ? 24.9
DH ? Pat McNulty ? 0.6
SP ? Dave Burba ? 16.3
SP- Jake Miller ? 16.0
RP ? Fred Scherman ? 4.2

We don?t need a controversial spot on a fourth-down play to decide this one. Unlike yesterday?s gridiron contest, Michigan wins going away.

Schoolboy Rowe played 15 big-league seasons, mostly with the Tigers. From 1934-1936, the right-hander won 62 games and pitched in a pair of World Series. In 1940, he went 16-3 as Detroit returned to the Fall Classic for the third time in seven years.
By all accounts, Rowe was a character.
According to his SABR bio, ?Rowe was known for talking to the baseball, which he often called Edna in honor of Edna Mary Skinner, whom he married after the 1934 World Series. He once described his preparation for pitching: ?Just eat a lot of vittles, climb the mound, wrap my fingers around the ball and say to it, ?Edna, honey, let?s go.?'

November 28 in Tigers and mlb history:

1944 - Detroit Tigers pitcher Hal Newhouser is named Most Valuable Player in the American League, gathering four more votes than teammate Dizzy Trout. Newhouser's 29 wins contrast with his 34 combined wins the previous four years, His 2.22 ERA is bettered by Trout (2.12), who also has 27 wins.

1958 - The American League announces that its Opening Day will be April 9th, making it the earliest date ever to open the junior circuit's regular season.

1978:
The Cincinnati Reds fire their nine-year manager, Sparky Anderson, who had led the team to five Division titles, four National League pennants and two World Championships (in 1975 and 1976), and averaged 96 wins per season. The surprise move comes six days after the Reds return from a trip to Japan. Anderson has one year left on a contract and had no idea he'd be fired. He will become the manager of the Detroit Tigers on June 12, 1979, replacing Les Moss.

MLB trade rumors: Daniel Hudson could provide a cheap upgrade to Tigers? bullpen.
The former Diamondbacks reliever is worth placing a small bet on.

MLB trade rumors: Cory Rasmus is an interesting potential free agent target for the Tigers.
bybtb

Who is he?
The decidedly less hirsute younger brother of Colossal Asshole Colby Rasmus, Cory was the 38th overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves.
