Detroit Tigers Team Notes

Sightings from Lakeland: Moving van got here this a.m. -- enough gear on that truck to supply Estonia. Patrick Leyland's pumped some iron.

Alex Avila looks fabulous, says he feels even better. Phil Coke still a walking, talking comedy skit. Lots of fans already stopping by.

Tigers expanding scoreboard video from 1,000 sq. ft. to 6,000 sq. ft. Extensive project.
Will the new scoreboard affect the wind patterns? .... Steve: Not large enough to do much to the wind. No big effect.

Even if he can shift smoothly to second -- very doable -- Inge has to show he can hit better than Danny Worth. That's no slam dunk.
At some point, Tigers defense has to get a nod. Danny Worth can play three IF positions very well. Inge needs to hit, and in a hurry.
Those who say Danny Worth has an option and Inge has $5.5 mill due this year have, at the very least, a discussion point.
Could Inge get traded? You can imagine the market is, and will be, extremely weak.
Leylands remark where he stated he loves Inge is very telling ... "Don't read too deeply. Tons of "loved" guys get cut".
NO Team in MLB would take Inge. No way! ... Scenario: Inge hits in camp, Tigers eat some $, get a lower-tier return.
henning.

February 17 in Tigers and mlb history:

1900 - Mary Hamilton Von Derbeck is to become owner of the Detroit American League franchise and of Bennett Park, in lieu of unpaid alimony. However, her ex-husband George Von Derbeck files the required bond with a Michigan court to cover the alimony due, regains ownership of the club, and sells it to Tiger manager George Stallings on March 6.

1995 - With the strike still unresolved and spring training set to begin, Tigers manager Sparky Anderson is put on an involuntary leave of absence as he refuses to manage replacement players. The Orioles announce they will not play exhibition games against teams using replacement players.
