1906: Popcorn vendor will be returning to Bennett Park for Tigers games this season.

1910: The Chalmers Auto Company of Detroit agrees to award a new car to the player who owns the highest batting average at season's end. Nap Lajoie will win a disputed batting title over Ty Cobb in a controversial finish, but Chalmers will award cars to both players in an effort to save face.

1916: An unsigned Tris Speaker arrives at the Boston Red Sox training camp in Hot Springs, Arkansas, in time for an exhibition game. Speaker goes 4 for 4 with a home run and a triple.

1917: Manager John McGraw is signed by the New York Giants to a five-year contract for $40,000 a year plus bonuses. The contract makes him the highest-paid figure in major league baseball.

1934: The Cincinnati Reds purchased Ivey Shiver from the Detroit Tigers.

1951: Hall of Fame player/manager Eddie Collins dies in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of 63. Collins batted .333 and stole 744 bases over a 25-year career, and batted .328 in six World Series with the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Athletics.

1963: The St. Louis Cardinals purchased Bob Humphreys from the Detroit Tigers.

1969: The Montreal Expos purchased Don Pepper from the Detroit Tigers.

1973: The Detroit Tigers traded Bobby Brooks to the California Angels for Bruce Kimm.

1983: The Detroit Tigers traded Stine Poole (minors) and cash to the Minnesota Twins for Sal Butera.
1983: The Detroit Tigers released Kevin Saucier.

1989: The Detroit Tigers released Ted Power.

1996: The Boston Red Sox selected John Doherty off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.

1997: In a trade reflecting current baseball economics, the Atlanta Braves send right fielder David Justice and center fielder Marquis Grissom to the Cleveland Indians for center fielder Kenny Lofton and relief pitcher Alan Embree. Atlanta and Cleveland faced each other in the 1995 World Series. The swap of the two Gold Glove center fielders and the three-time All-Star Justice reduces the Braves' payroll by an estimated $6.8 million. Both players have several years left on their contracts, while Lofton, considered the best leadoff hitter in major league baseball.

1998: The Detroit Tigers purchased Doug Bochtler from the Oakland Athletics,
1998: The Detroit Tigers released Marcus Jensen.

2002: The Detroit Tigers traded Ronnie Merrill (minors) and Victor Santos to the Colorado Rockies for Jose Paniagua.

2003: The Atlanta Braves traded Chris Spurling to the Detroit Tigers for Matt Coenen (minors).

2004: The Cleveland Indians purchased Brent Abernathy from the Detroit Tigers.

2008: Tigers sign Miguel Cabrera to an 8-year, $152.3 million contract extension, largest in franchise history.

1920: At spring training, Washington Senators pitcher Walter Johnson is out of control in his first intersquad game, hitting three batters and walking two. One of the batters he hits is Bucky Harris, who takes a pitch that glances off the side of his head. Johnson gives up seven runs in three innings.

1923: Ty Cobb's hometown of Royston, Georgia, declares a city holiday in Cobb's honor.
Royston Mayor, Linton Johnson, declared a city Holiday on March 26, 1923 to honor it's famous native son, Ty Cobb.

1936: Hank Greenberg signs with the Detroit Tigers to a $20,000 contract, and Red Ruffing accepts $12,000 from the New York Yankees.

1937: On the advice of Ty Cobb, Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio reduces the weight of his bat from 40 ounces to 36 ounces.

1946: The Detroit Tigers released Rip Radcliff.

1951: In an exhibition game at the University of Southern California, Mickey Mantle propels a home run estimated at 654 to 660 feet. The shot clears Bovard Field and then goes the width of a practice football field before landing. Mantle has two homers, a bases-loaded triple, and drives in seven runs as the Yankees flunk the Trojans, 15 - 1.

1950: Babe Martin Purchased by the Detroit Tigers from the Boston Red Sox.

1951: Babe Martin sent from the Detroit Tigers to the St. Louis Browns in an unknown transaction.

1960: A Baltimore Orioles-Cincinnati Reds series scheduled for Havana, Cuba, is moved to Miami, Florida, by Baltimore chief Lee MacPhail. The Reds, with a minor league club in Cuba, want the trip, but the Orioles fear increased political unrest on the island.

1973: George Sisler dies in Richmond Heights, Missouri, at the age of 80. Sisler batted .340 with 2,812 hits over a 15-year major league career. In 1920, he set a major league record by collecting 257 hits, which will last into the next century. Sisler gained election to the Hall of Fame in 1939.

1974: The Boston Red Sox dump two future Hall of Famers when designated hitter Orlando Cepeda and shortstop Luis Aparicio are both given their unconditional releases.
Aparicio, who elects to retire, finishes his career with 2,677 hits and 506 stolen bases and will enter the Hall in 1984.
Cepeda will eventually wind up with the Kansas City Royals, where he will complete his major league career this year. He will win election to Cooperstown in 1999.

1976 - The American League approves the sale of the Toronto Expansion franchise to the Labatt Brewing Company. The transaction is estimated at $7 million.

1977: Infielder Rico Petrocelli is released by the Boston Red Sox after a 13-season career for his only major league club. Petrocelli retires with 210 home runs and two All-Star appearances.

1984: The Detroit Tigers released Jerry Ujdur.

1993: The Detroit Tigers selected Gary Thurman off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.

1997: The Detroit Tigers selected Jimmy Hurst off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.
1997: The Detroit Tigers released Graham Koonce.

2000: The Detroit Tigers sign Mike Oquist as a free agents.
2000: The Detroit Tigers signed Steve Sparks as a free agent.

2003: The Detroit Tigers returned Travis Chapman (earlier draft pick) to the Philadelphia Phillies.

2006: The Detroit Tigers released Carlos Pena.

2008: The Detroit Tigers released Tim Byrdak.

2017: The Detroit Tigers released Mark Lowe.

2019: This spring's trend of major league teams locking up key players with long-term deals continues. Following recent extensions granted to Mike Trout, Chris Sale and Justin Verlander, among others, today the Mets agree to a five-year extension with ace P Jacob deGrom for $137.5 million
