Tigers snap 5G losing streak w/ 7-5 win in the Bronx...6 early runs were key....Smyly was excellent again - 6IP, 1ER on 2H w/ 2BB/7K.

Tigers jumped all over F. Garcia - Dirks w/ 3-run HR in first, Boesch w/ RBI dbl, Cabrera 2-run single in 2nd...and Garcia was done for day

Staked to 6-1 lead - Smyly ran w/ it: gave up Swisher HR in 1st, then just 2BB thru next 5 inn., came out after A-Rod leadoff single in 7th.

Smyly needed just 93 pitches to go 6IP...he's now made 4 starts in ML, allowed 1R in ea. start...2ER in 12IP vs. Tex/NYY with 4BB/14K First Tigers pitcher in modern era since 1919 to start with those numbers.

Dirks had a heckuva day - the 3-run HR in 1st (2nd 3R HR of yr for #Tigers), plus 2 superb running catches on drives from Teixeira & Swisher.

Cabrera had 2-run single plus solo HR in 8th - now has 7HR and 19RBI in 21G. Valverde gave up 3R in 9th before finally getting final out.

2010: Dontrelle Willis's comeback continues as he pitches his best game since joining the Detroit Tigers before the 2008 season. He gives up only 4 hits and no runs in 7 innings as Detroit blanks Minnesota, 3 - 0. He picks up his first win of the year - which is only his second for the Bengals. In the contest, Magglio Ordonez hits the 300th home run of his career, four years to the day after hitting number 200.
