April 30 in Tigers and mlb history:

1913 Ty Cobb finally comes to the plate in Detroit’s Navin Field after a preseason holdout. The fans give the star a two-minute ovation.

1967 - Steve Barber and Stu Miller of the Baltimore Orioles combine on a no-hitter, but still lose the game to the Detroit Tigers, 2 - 1. A wild Barber gives up 10 walks in eight and one-third innings before giving way to Miller, who pitches one-third of an inning.

2005: Major league players are asked by Commissioner Bud Selig to agree to a 50-game suspension for the first offense, a 100-game suspension for the second offense and a lifelong ban after the third offense for the use of steroids. In addition to the harsher "three-strike" rule, the commissioner is also seeking a ban on amphetamines.

2010: Scott Sizemore and Brennan Boesch both hit their first major league home run in the 4th inning as Detroit beats the Angels, 10 - 6. Another rookie, Austin Jackson, goes 5 for 5 for Detroit. Sizemore's dinger follows one by Gerald Laird, while Boesch's is a grand slam during the 8-run inning.

Delmon Young not in Monday's lineup against Kansas City, status still unclear.
Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski told reporters Saturday that outfielder Delmon Young would return to the lineup as soon as he'd receive clearance.

It was possible Young, who was expected to undergo an evaluation Monday, could've been re-inserted later that night in the Tigers' series opener against Kansas City.
He's not.

Instead, Don Kelly will make another start in left field and Andy Dirks will DH with right-hander Luke Hochevar set to take the mound for the Royals.

It's the fourth game Young could miss after being placed on the restrictive list.

The Tigers are expected to receive results of the evaluation from MLB soon, which would hold the answer as to when the evaluator says Young can return to the field. He was arrested Friday morning on a charge of aggravated harassment as a hate crime.

Young was expected to meet with an independent counselor Monday that was chosen by Major League Baseball and the players' union. The evaluator would determine whether Young required treatment for alcohol and anger-management issues.
