Tigers manager Jim Leyland hinted that the Tigers could option Max Scherzer to the minor leagues for a time if his struggles continue. "There are always choices," the skipper said, according to Lynn Henning of the Detroit News. Scherzer has a 7.77 ERA with 10.0 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9 five starts into the season.

Selig said in a statement. "An incident like this cannot and will not be toleration."

Young has agreed to the discipline and will not appeal the suspension.

"He has agreed to it -- well, it?s been agreed upon," Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said. "He is accepting it."

He will be required to participate in a treatment program as part of the discipline related to his arrest. He is not expected to miss any time on the field as part of the program, Dombrowski confirmed Monday.

Dombrowski said the team can't impose "dual discipline" after Young serves his suspension, meaning the Tigers aren't expected to impose additional punishment.

"I understand that Mr. Young is regretful," Selig said, "and it is my expectation that he will learn from this unfortunate episode."
