We’re breaking tradition again today – and every day the Detroit Tigers are playing October baseball. The day after each game, we’ll be dissecting it. The good and the bad. Hopefully, a lot more good.
Thursday’s game was a struggle for both sides but in the end, it was the Guardians who prevailed. The final score was 5-4.
Today, we’re asking you to share either your biggest highlight or biggest disappointment from that game.

October 11 in Tigers and mlb history:

1887: The Detroit Wolverines score 5 unearned runs and win 5-3 in Game 2 of a championship series with St. Louis.

1907: Detroit hosts their first World Series game, at Bennett Park. Unfortunately, the Tigers lose to the Chicago Cubs, 6-1, to fall behind in the Series, 3 games to none.

1909: Honus Wagner has 3 hits and steals 3 bases, Pirates win Game 3 in Detroit to take a 2-1 series lead.

1911: Ty Cobb of the Detroit Tigers and Wildfire Schulte of the Chicago Cubs win the newly established Chalmers Awards, which go to the league's most valuable players. Cobb batted .420 with an American League-leading 127 RBI. Cobb led the league in nearly every offensive category; runs 147, hits 248, doubles 47, triples 24, stolen bases 83, slugging .621, ops 1.088, ops+ 196, and total bases 367. Cobb just finished second in homeruns to homerun baker.
Using a point system - 8 for a first-place vote, seven for second, and so on - the eight voting writers give Cobb the maximum 64 points. Winners receive Chalmers automobiles.

1913: The Philadelphia Athletics win the World Series as Eddie Plank outduels New York Giants pitching great Christy Mathewson in Game 5. Plank allows only two hits in the Athletics' 3 - 1 victory, giving Philadelphia its third World Championship in the last four seasons.

1915: At Fenway Park, an unprecedented 42,300 are on hand for Game 3 of the World Series and see another 1 - 1 duel, which is decided in the 9th when Duffy Lewis singles home Harry Hooper for a 2 - 1 hometown win. Dutch Leonard walks none, yields three hits, and sets down the last 20 Phillies to face him.

1924: The First Negro League World Series ~ Kansas City Monarchs vs. Hilldale (Muehlebach Park, KC.

1934: Cameras get a bird's-eye view of the 1934 World Series between the Tigers and Cardinals at Sportsman's Park.

1943: The Philadelphia Athletics traded Don Heffner and Bob Swift to the Detroit Tigers for Rip Radcliff.

1943: New York Yankees pitcher Spud Chandler shuts out the St. Louis Cardinals, 2 - 0, as the Yankees win the World Series in five games. Chandler gives up 10 hits and strands 11 runners. Bill Dickey's two-run homer in the 6th inning is the difference.

1948: The Cleveland Indians defeat the Boston Braves, 4 - 3, to win the World Series in six games. Joe Gordon hits a home run in support of future Hall of Famer Bob Lemon, who earns a 4 - 3 victory and his second of the Series. After pitching a five-hit shutout in Game 3, rookie Gene Bearden retires the last five batters and gets the save.

1960: John E. Fetzer purchases shares from his partners that gives him majority control of the Detroit Tigers. Fetzer will be an owner of the team until 1983.

1963: The Los Angeles Angels purchased Leo Marentette from the Detroit Tigers.

1964: The St. Louis Cardinals' Ken Boyer hits a grand slam in Game 4 of the World Series, capping off a 4 - 3 comeback win over the New York Yankees. The Cardinals had trailed, 3 - 0, before Boyer's blast against Al Downing.

1967: Boston Red Sox shortstop Rico Petrocelli hits a pair of home runs, highlighting an 8 - 4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth game of the World Series. The Red Sox's win forces a seventh and deciding game, which the Cardinals will win.

1971: Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles sets a World Series record by reaching base five consecutive times against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Robinson's barrage helps Baltimore to an 11 - 3 win in Game 2 of the World Series.

1972: The Tigers rally for a thrilling victory over the Oakland A?s in Game Four of the American League Championship Series. Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning at Tiger Stadium, Detroit tallies three runs, the last on a single by Jim Northrup, to tie the best-of-five series.

1973: The Tigers hire Ralph Houk to be their manager.

1987: Tigers lose 5-3 to the Twins at Tiger Stadium to fall behind 3-1 in the ALCS. Darrell is Evans picked off at third base to snuff out a rally in the 6th inning.

2002: The Detroit Tigers selected Pedro Feliciano off waivers from the New York Mets.

2004: The Houston Astros post a 12 - 3 triumph over the Atlanta Braves in the decisive fifth game of the National League Division Series. Winning a postseason series for the first time in the 43-year history of the franchise, the Astros earn a spot in the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

2006: Tigers take a 2-0 ALCS lead with an 8-5 win in Oakland. Alexis Gomez and Curtis Granderson hit home runs, Placido Polanco has 3 hits.

2011: The Tigers win Game 3 of the ALCS, 5 - 2 over Texas, but still trail the Rangers, 2 games to 1. Doug Fister allows a 1st-inning run, but then settles down, not giving up another score until the 8th. But by that time, Detroit has put five runs across the plate, on solo homers by Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta off Colby Lewis, another by Miguel Cabrera off Koji Uehara, and a two-run single by Austin Jackson.

2012: Detroit Tigers Ace Right Hander Justin Verlander manhandles the A's in Game Five of the AL Division Series, pitching a four-hit shutout to advance the Tigers to the next round of the playoffs. The win comes one day after the Tigers blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning. Tigers win 6-0 in Oakland to advance to the ALCS. Austin Jackson drives in two on a single and a double.


2020: Hall of Famer Joe Morgan, iconic member of the "Big Red Machine" in the 1970s as the back-to-back National League MVP winner in 1975 and 1976, passes away at the age of 77. He is the fifth Cooperstown enshrinee to die since August 31st.

1907: Chicago Cubs pitcher Three Finger Brown shuts down the Detroit Tigers, 2 - 0, to win the World Series. Chicago steals four bases for a total of 18 in the five-game Series, winning four, and the other ending in a tie.

1908: The Tigers finally win their first World Series game, blasting the Cubs, 8-3 in Game Three of the Fall Classic.

1918: Outfielder Alex Burr is killed in France, becoming the third major leaguer to die in World War I. Eddie Grant and Bun Troy are the others. World War II casualties will be Elmer Gedeon and Harry O'Neill. Bob Neighbors will be listed as missing in action in the Korean War to complete the casualty list.

1920: Hall of Famer Stan Coveleski of the Cleveland Indians wins his third game of the World Series, a 3 - 0 shutout of the Brooklyn Robins. The victory gives the Indians the World Championship, five games to two.

1923: Casey Stengel of NY Giants crosses home plate after hitting HR in Game 3 of 1923 World Series. Casey's 7th inning blast off Yankees' Sad Sam Jones was only run of the game. Also in the photo: High Pockets Kelly (bat in hand) and Yanks catcher Wally Schang.

1928: New York Yankees legends Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig have some fun playing cowboys to promote "The World Series of Rodeo" at Dexter Park, NY.

1929: Trailing the Chicago Cubs, 8 - 0, in Game 4 of the World Series, the Philadelphia Athletics scored 10 runs in the 7th inning to win, 10 - 8.

1948: The New York Yankees name Casey Stengel their manager, replacing Bucky Harris. Stengel, who receives a two-year contract, will lead the Yankees to five consecutive World Championships beginning in 1949.

1955: The Detroit Tigers purchased Jim Proctor from Indianapolis (American Association).

1961: The Houston Colt .45's purchased Hal Woodeshick from the Detroit Tigers.
1961: The Detroit Tigers released Gerry Staley.

1963: Major League Baseball stage the only Hispanic American All-Star Game in history. The roster of Latino stars includes future Hall of Famers Luis Aparicio, Orlando Cepeda, Roberto Clemente, and Juan Marichal, and other standouts like Felipe Alou and Tony Oliva. 1972: The Tigers lose 2-1 to Oakland in Game Five of the American League Championship Series. Vida Blue pitches four shutout innings of relief to hold down the home team at Tiger Stadium. Woodie Fryman and John Hiller hold the A?s to four hits but an error by shortstop Dick McAuliffe leads to Oakland?s winning run.

1984: San Diego Padres pitchers tie a World Series record by issuing 11 bases on balls in a 5 - 2 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Game Three. Tigers score 4 runs in the 2nd inning on a Marty Castillo 2-run home run, Alan Trammell RBI double, & Larry Herndon bases loaded walk.
Detroit takes a 2-1 Series lead. Milt Wilcox gets the win and Willie Hernandez has the save.

1987: The Minnesota Twins beats Detroit 9 - 5, in Game Five of the ALCS to wrap up their first American League title since 1965.

1995: The Detroit Tigers released Dwayne Henry.
1995: The Detroit Tigers released Ron Tingley.
1995: The Detroit Tigers released Derrick White.

2005: Travis Dawkins of the Detroit Tigers granted free agency.

2011: With a chance to take a commanding 3 games to 1 lead in the ALCS, the Tigers lose a heartbreaker to the Rangers, 7-3 in extra innings. Closer Jose Valverde allows four runs in the 11th to take the loss.

2013: Johnny Peralta's RBI single in the 6th scores the only run in Game 1 of the ALCS at Fenway Park.
The Tigers nearly throw the first multi-pitcher no-hitter in postseason history in Game One of the American League Championship Series. Starter Anibal Sanchez and relievers Al Alburquerque, Jose Veras, and Drew Smyly hold the Red Sox hitless through eight innings at Fenway Park. Closer Joaquin Benoit enters in the ninth and records one out but then allows a single to Daniel Nava. Benoit gets the last two outs and secures Detroit?s 1-0 win in the series opener.

2023: Nick Castellanos homers twice to propel the Phillies into the NLCS with a 3 - 1 win over the Braves in Game 4 of the Division Series. For Castellanos, it is a second consecutive game with two homers, something he is the first to accomplish in the postseason.

It’s all up for grabs on Saturday when the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians meet for the 5th and final game of the division series.
Originally scheduled for a 4PM first pitch, broadcasters moved the event from mid-afternoon to 8PM in order to take advantage of the prime time and extra eyeballs it may provide.
But now there appear to be weather concerns and the game has been moved to 1PM.
The first change was made less than 24 hours ago and the second move with less than 12 hours notice. Will it impact your personal schedule?
