Mild abdominal strain for Tigers Austin Jackson. He's day-to-day.

Porcello was just the 3rd big leaguer since at least '88 to last just 4 innings with 100 pitches and no walks.

Tigers call up Brayan Villarreal, send down Danny Worth. They had decided they needed extra reliever while Valverde is sidelined.

With Austin Jackson potentially out tomorrow, Tigers could be down to 11 position players for.

Leyland on Porcello leaving pitches up: "He lives downstairs, not upstairs. He's on the bottom floor of the apartment, not the top floor."

May 17 in Tigers and mlb history:

1945 - For the fourth time in four days, every American League game is postponed because of rain.

2001: Ike Brown dies from cancer in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 59. A popular member of the Detroit Tigers for six seasons, Brown was one of the last Negro League players still active in the majors during the 1970s, and the last to make his major league debut. The versatile Brown played every infield and outfield position but center field during his Tigers stint.

Executives expect the Tigers, Dodgers and Cardinals to be among the most aggressive teams this summer. As one person pointed out, the Tigers figure to be aggressive after committing $214MM to Prince Fielder. Detroit could use pitching help or could consider trading for a second baseman or left fielder.
