The LF is on the DL
The CF is on the DL
The C can?t play due to injury
The backup C can?t play due to injury
The starting 2B has been sent down
The number 2 starter is on the DL
The 3rd and 4th starters have been wildly inconsistent
The 8th and 9th inning bullpen options have been wildly inconsistent
The SS and RF haven?t yet hit nearly what they are capable of
The DH has been, well ? nowhere near DH-ish
Our regular DH is out until Sept at the earliest
A valuable relief pitcher has been on the DL all season, without known return
Two bench players have been terrible at the plate

Did I miss anyone?

The Tigers have played arguably the roughest part of their schedule. Still a bit more to come, but not many stretches left where 19 of 24 games are on the road. They?ve played the majority of their games against the AL East.
Verlander hasn?t been Verlander for a few starts. Fielder hasn?t yet shown the power that he can. Miguel has had some stretches Tiger fans have never seen (0 for 21?)
And yet ? a small handful of games under .500 and still only a handful of games behind in the Central Division.
I?m not saying the Tigers will run away with anything, but with all considered it?s easy to be optimistic. Ya just gotta be realistic first.

Leyland said that Austin Jackson is still progressing but would not play on Sunday and likely wouldn't be available on Tuesday.

You know a team's injury situation is bad when the manager is considering which pitchers he could use in the field if the situation calls for it. Leyland said it almost came to that on Saturday night, and relief pitcher Brayan Villarreal would've been the first choice.

"He can play short, third, outfield [and] he said he can hit," Leyland said of Villarreal. "I don't know if he could or not -- he probably can't hit me if I ran through there -- but he's athletic. He was the guy I was going to use last night if something happened."

June 4 in Tigers history:

1906: Bill Coughlin is the second Tiger within a month to steal second base? third base? and home in a game; he does this in the 7th inning against Washington during a 13 - 4 romp. Pitcher Bill Donovan did it on May 7th. Washington ties the game at 4 apiece? but the Tigers score 9 in the last 2 innings to win. Charley O'Leary has a homer for Detroit.

1915: Ty Cobb steals home in the 9th inning of 3 - 0 Detroit win? the only steal of home that late in a game in his career. Yankee pitcher Ray Caldwell is so angry at the safe call he throws his mitt in the air and is promptly ejected by umpire Silk O'Loughlin. It is Cobb's second steal of home while Caldwell is on the mound (the first was on May 12th? 1911).

1936: The Tigers score 10 runs in the 3rd and 6 in the 5th en route to a 18 - 9 thrashing of the A's. Philadelphia scores 6 in the 9th but still comes up a bit short. Mickey Cochrane belts an inside-the-park grand slam in the 3rd and collapses after running it out and is replaced. Manager Cochrane will not be in the lineup as a player until July 15. Elden Auker goes the distance for Detroit and might have had a shutout except for 4 errors. The A's misplay 6.

1960 - Detroit's Chico Fernandez strokes a 10th-inning triple against Cleveland? and then swipes home for the final run in a 7 - 4 win. Rocky Colavito breaks out of his slump with a solo homer in the 4th and a 2-run shot in the 10th? off Dick Stigman.

1984: The Tigers break a 3 - 3 tie in the 10th when Dave Bergman golfs a three-run homer into the upper deck at Tiger Stadium. Bergman had fouled 7 pitches off Roy Lee Jackson before connecting. Howard Johnson has a three-run homer in the 7th to account for the other half of Detroit's scoring.
